Dan

He ran this year in the steel framers

Tark
04-11-2003, 11:15 AM
If i had the money i would do the R6 cut. i am only doing a few seconds a lap behind them on my 1991 standard CBR.

the only problem is the fact that it costs £15,000 up front for race entries for a season in the R6 cup!!!!

if you want to make it big then start on a 125 or 250 as it is easier competition and you will get noticed and get into the ACU academy. Then you might get a ride with the R6 cup.

i started in the 600 class which is the most competetive! Now i am too old for the academy so i have to do it off my own back.

Simon
08-11-2003, 12:55 PM
not a bad idea, why was it that you went straight into the 600's then if the competition is that big?? wot sort of 250's do they race, would i be able to race an aprilia RS 50

no. you wouldnt be able to race an rs50.

if theyre racing 125's/250's then they'll be gp bikes, so honda rs125/250, yamaha tz125/250 and aprilia rs125/250 (completely different to the road bike)

troutslayer
08-11-2003, 02:50 PM
to add to that, theres a superteen series within the MRO (next step down from national level) which is for aprilia rs125 proddy bikes, which is a fantastic series. Bemsee also have a proddy 125 class open to all.

(proddy means production, so a road bike converted to race)

hope that helps.

Its a long story but to cut it short:

I didn't know at the time the 600s was the most competative. I was going to race a CB500 to get started with a team but they dropped out. So i bought a 600 cos i thought it would last me longer and would be easier to sell.

Now I am National and Running in the Top ten of the Steel Frame 600's. And I have just got a new bike with sorted Engine, breaks and Susp so watch out for next year!!

Simon
11-11-2003, 04:05 PM
sorry i didnt mean an RS 50 i meant an RS 250 cause thats the next bike that i want to get. how do u think i should go about getting into racing???

Tark
11-11-2003, 08:27 PM
You can race that in the F400 class.

250 2 strokes and 400 4 strokes.

Everyone says a 250 will keep up with a 400 etc etc but it is getting one sided. You will struggle to keep up with the 400's with the new 4 stroke techno bits but you will have good fun playing with the other 250's.

If you want the bike for track and the road you will have to take off a few indicators etc etc and tape upo your lights and speedo. Then you will have to lock wire a few bits and then the bike is readyish. You might need an oil tray.

Then join a club, get a licence pay your entrei fees, turn up and race.

You will need full leathers boots gloves and helmet. Oh and your bike and a few ££££'s

Tark
11-11-2003, 08:28 PM
Oh and you can enter the open class which is always fun!

Just watch out for rapid R1s etc etc from behind and dont pull into thier path! Liek someone did to me and knocked me off!

Its good to overtake the LC class and the 125's though!

Simon
12-11-2003, 11:45 AM
lol ok mate i bet u were a bit ****ed off with the guy who pulled in front of u :o thanks alot mark. i can race a 250 on the track as soon as i get my license cant i????? that was the inpression i was under when i spoke too dave wood about it dunno if u know him he won the privateers cup in British Superbikes :)

Tark

when i started in 2001 you just got an your bike and raced. I think the licence organisation "ACU" were thinking about having a course for novices but i am no idea what they are doing. you would have to look into this.

I've been looking into going racing myself next year. You just need an ACU licence and Club membership (both organised through a club) and an eye test, then you can ride any bike you want if you've got a bike licence. If you haven't got a bike licence you can do anything up to 600 proddy. You don't ever have to have ridden a bike before, which is a bit crazy.

I was thinking about CB500s (cheapish and easy to have a competitive bike), but it would be a solo mission which I think would be a pain in the arse (especially if you fcuk yourself up).

I'm a bit confused by the club setup though. Are New Era and BMCRC the same level (New era seem to do more tracks)? Also in New era what's the difference between the club championship and the superclub championship (apart from the number of races)?

Dan

I would love to start racing, but unfortunatly I think im too old to start it now. My dad has had bikes since I was a kid, wish he got me into racing or summit then - at least Valentino would have had a bit of competition! lol

How much does it cost to enter the steel frame championship?
Whats the class for the NC30 VFRR, and does anyone know how much that costs for the season?

right. depending on what age depends on what bike you can ride. If you do a CB500 you can ride in the Steel frame but will get your ass kicked by the likes off me but New era run a CB500 cup.

New era and supercup are the same thing ish but have different sponsors. new era run at most track but they are also the most competative with as many as 3 F600 heats! These guys dont hang arround. i raced with them as a novie and on my 1991 CBR could only just get into the top half of the pack! next on the list is Derby Pheonix who i race with. They are an Up there club. and Auto 66 do most track too.

Keep em coming!!

Dan

Ahh thats nice... dont answer my questions... :snooty:

Tark
14-11-2003, 11:18 AM
Sorry. Right no matter what class you are in the race entries are the same. usually 80 for a day in your class for which you get 2 races and a practise. for an extar £40 you can enter another class like the open solo etc etc.

You would be able to be pretty competative in the F400 on a VFR but the ZXR's are the best!

For a weekend you are looking at spending at least £300 so times that by the fact there is about 10 meetings + in a year about £3000. then you have to buy new tyres and oil etc etc but this is kinda included as I avaraged the price. Some meetings just cost you £160 for race entries and £50 worth or petrol.

There you go Dan.

i cant believe tark has left bemsee (bmcrc) off the club list!

including coverage on sky sports3!

tbh, the big clubs are bemsee and new era. pretty much level as far as standards go. the 2002 tzr champ from new era struggled to run in the top 8 of bemsee. bemsee cover the uk circuits (though seem more biased to southern uk, next year we got brands, lydden, snett, sliverstone, cadwell, pembrey, croft) and also france, with 20 meetings per year. MRO is part of bemsee, run 10 meets a year and is the next step down from bsb (along similar lines to new era's superclub i guess??)

dan - ur never too old to start! i turned 30 just before my first race this year! race entries for bemsee seem pretty similar to new era.

i've never been to a new era meet so cant compare the 2 clubs. but bemsee have been ever so helpful to me.

Tark
14-11-2003, 11:49 AM
I have heard of them but didn't recognise the bmcrc and have never raced with them. too dawn saff for me. I might just have to have a ride out with the big lads when they are running at Croft! Try and make a name for myself. Is there any chance of just a one day meet with the MRO? What is the web site?

troutslayer
14-11-2003, 10:58 PM
the mro meets are all one day. they have superteens,gp125,gp250,ss400,ss600 and powerbike classes, 2 x qualifying sessions followed by one race. mro will no doubt be foing mallory, cadwell, croft up ur neck of woods! i think entry price for mro is £100.

www.bemsee.co.uk and u should be able to get the contact details. usual stuff, you'll have to have club membership to get an entry form.

Simon
15-11-2003, 08:13 AM
is that all it costs to enter.......is there a prize for winning etc.

Tark
15-11-2003, 09:09 AM
MRO here i come!

Some races you might win money for but mostly you just get champ points and a trophey for finishing in the top 3. There is usually prise money for winning the championship.

I am not sure how the MRO bemsee work.

I think you get prise money for doing well in the R6 cup but it might have changed now its not called the Junior supersport.

troutslayer
15-11-2003, 05:11 PM
i think if u can afforf to do the r6 cup at £15k to enter, then ya can afford to not have prize money!

tark - yes, do some mro rounds. then we'll see if ur good or not!

Tark
15-11-2003, 08:34 PM
Well i have had a look on the MRO website and there qualifying times are Far too quick for me! Do they use a set of soft compound tyres and just throw them away after qualifying?

The race pace is pretty fast but even on my old standard 1991 CBR i could keep up with the backmarkers!

I would like to think if I had a Super Tuned 2003 CBR600RR i would be able to keep mid pack but i will never know! :x

If they do Croft next year I will see if I can qualify!

Biker Dude
16-11-2003, 10:17 AM
They probably all have tyre deals!

Tark
16-11-2003, 12:06 PM
I am trying to get a tyre deal and then do the endurance race series. 8 hours long! So i will go through a set or two tyres!

Me and Gaz Cutts in a team. The steelie boys!

Biker Dude
16-11-2003, 01:44 PM
humm...u and cuttsy in the same team.. could be good. At least u wont have money problems ;)

Tark
16-11-2003, 02:05 PM
One problem would be whos bike to use! I am sure his would be the best but what if I drop it!!

troutslayer
16-11-2003, 02:11 PM
so are the mro times in general, quicker than the new era superclub??

and there are plenty are people running in mro who dont have it all paid for by other people...

for example, i'm planning to do a few rounds in mro in 2005, but mainly concentrating on bemsee club rounds, just going to add some mro to spice it up a little! and i'll do a few in 2006, though i'm going to be concentrating on the manx.

Tark
16-11-2003, 02:29 PM
the MRO qualifiying seem very very fast! The actaull race pace is fast but looking at the fastest lap times i should be able to just about keep up with the end of the mid pack if you know what i mean.

The clubman section in the nationwide cup on the other hand dont look to be that fast. With the times I was doing last year I should be able to run round within the top tenish.

But then again next season I will be national so it looks like thats not an option!

Simon
17-11-2003, 11:48 AM
even if i could afford the r6 cup which would be a bit tight some prize money would still be nice :D

Tark
17-11-2003, 01:55 PM
And if you win the championship you get to keep the bike and get your £15K back! :P

Biker Dude
17-11-2003, 04:15 PM
