Hello and welcome, if you're just getting back to bikes and haven't kept up your no claims suggest you look at insurance groups before you make a definate decision, SV650 is in a low group and cheap to insure, depends on your budget really

3,500 will get you most types, what do you like. What car did you have then??

Hi Doodlebug I like most bikes thats my problem trying to choose between them but i have always fancyed getting a kawaski been looking at a zx6r in local motorcycle shop , I do love the styling of the zx7r but I have read that the riding position is a bit cramped , as for insurance I am a bit of a old git so it shouldnt be to bad even with no no-claims on a bike , the car i have just sold was 1957 chevy with a 350 v8
cheers for now Dave

You'll miss that, I had an '85 transam, wish I'd never sold it. You won't go far wrong with the Kwaka!

For that sort of money if you are looking for a Kawasaki then you need to be looking for the 636, i disagree with it being too track focused, its a cracking bike and more than enough for any rider, if you are going to end up in the 750 class then its the Gixxer without question but for a good one you are just outside the budget with £3500 i imagine unless you find a place that will really haggle.
The 636 though should be within the budget failing that go for the GSXR600 as they can certainly be had for that sort of cash ;)
And if you want a cracking bike for that price look for an RSV1000 fairly good on the insurance too ;)
Or even a ZX9R

bigbikefan, where abouts in colchester are you from? if that zx6r is in a certain shop by the quay i would approach with caution. i don't like them in that shop and a few others would agree!

Welcome to the site matey.................you gotta go Kwaka..........and it just so happens ....lol:clap
zx6r b1 can be found for that money now... might still be worth considering a slightly older/cheaper zx6r A1 model... they are very different animals
arrange for a test ride on the main contenders
zx6r b1, zx6r a1, gsxr, cbr, daytona
also try a zx7r.. cause they are great (and fairly cheap to pick up)
(you can always fit a set of rearsets to give you more room on the bike, although the 7 does have a bit of a stretch to the bars)
see which you prefer, you can go wrong with any of the big manufacturers
