Hello, i have a 50cc scooter and is very zippy and nippy, but is restricted. i was thinking about keeping it legal and getting a sports exhaust. I was searching around and there was an exhaust which said it was road legal but gave you more mphs and more BHP?? is there such a thing?

Can you legal get your scooter to go fast legally? so confused!

A Moped must have a max speed of 30mph, so anything you do to make it go faster means it is not a moped anymore, so......legally you cannot ride it at 16........I'm not saying none do, but if you want the legal line.

I think what they may have been refferring to is that the exhaust meets the legal noise limits.

Nicky is true there, as soon as you tamper with it, its not registered as a moped any more, it becomes a scooter, and has to be re-registored!
Just de-restrict it! lol

There seems to be a little confusion here Ginger.

Your bike is restricted at the moment and you want to keep it legal, Fitting that performance exhaust will make the bike have more power and be faster making it no longer as restricted and therefore illegal for a 16 year old to ride it.

When the exhaust advert says it is Legal and you wont have any MOT worried that means it passes the BS standards and sound restrictions so is road legal.

There is a difference between the bike being legal and the rider being legal to ride said bike.

Just De-restrict it, Put the fast exhaust on and go for it.

Assuming your over 16 and re-register the bike. PMSL

35 mph is about what they do anyway. Your speedo can be about 10% out making it read another 3.5 so we are at 38.5 anyway. If yours was a good one it might do a few more mph than one made on a monday morning or friday afternoon. And then there is the friction of different road surfaces and wind and not to mention hills!! I dare say yours will do 40mph.

Don't knock 'em you lot. We all started somewhere. I think its great these lads and lasses are getting involved on here.

Some of your advice is good chaps.

I remember trying bloody everything to get my Suzi AP50 to 68mph. Indicated was 72mph and Mr Plod said 69mph. It would beat the Honda SS50 and even the Fantic Chopper (supposedly the fastest thing around at the time).

Not bad at 16 with no road experience to speak of. I learnt a lot about 2 strokes from playing with that beast. God it was sooo quick!:grin3

Me too. I started on the road with a TS50ER that would do 63. LOL. Wasn't quite 50cc though if you get my drift!
