My son bought an 88 tzr 125, was left out back while he got cash together for insurance,tax etc.. he regularly kicked it over and it ran fine. Anyway brings it round front and sets off on his first trip and it dies on him at end of road. After a lot of attempts at kicking it it ran for a few seconds and then cut out.
Anyway after investigation there was a very weak spark at the plug, which has now turned into no spark at all. I got the haynes manual and ran all the tests there on the electrics, everything checked out except the Source Coil. The high speed windings are meant to be between 48 - 72 ohm, we read 30 ohm, and the low speed windings are meant to be 520 - 780 ohm, we read approx 300 ohm. Does this mean that stator plate/coils are knackered ? would this account for having no spark ? I know if it isnt this it must be cdi unit which obviously I dont want to replace if not needed. If they are going to be the problem is it going to be chaeper to get new coils or is it possible to have them fixed.
