do i need a race cdi???

can any 1 help?
i have a tzr 50.
my speedo doesnt go over 50mph? y is this? how can i sort it?
is there any restrictions in the cdi unit??
does any 1 know of any other restrictions other than exhaust and air filter??
does any 1 know of where i can buy a cdi?? thats if i do need 1??

my lights also dont work but my indicators and everythink else work ever since i unplugged the voltage regulator/rectifier thing.
i checked the fuse and thats ok..
help please???

grrr refering people to me! i think the 50 has a powervalve! on the older model 125s u would eigher peg the valve open to get more top end! or leave it close and u would have better accell unless u had the servo motor and brain which would turn it when needed which would give u both midrange and top end! not 100% sure with the 50s you bnest bet if you want more speed is to take it too a dealer and then get it de-restricted if not i think they restrict it in the exhaust if you have a standed exhaust change it for a racing exhaust as the restiction is in the pipe! i dont think its restricted in the CDI but if it is you can get aftermarket CDIs which arnt restricted doesnt have to be a race CDI as i dont think they really race TZR50s hope this helps

the UK TZR125RR was restricted electronically and you are advised to buy a new CDI. Although there is some re-wiring that can be done to get round this. Not sure if its the same on the 50.

If it was restricted fully it wouldn't do over 35 never mind 50. Wont do much more than that de-restrcted unless you start playing with performance parts.

surely theres sumthin you can do to make the speedo count to 99 instead of 50... or maybe when the dealers de restrict it they do that aswell

Our son had a TZR50 and the same thing happened to his bike with regards to the speedo it would not read over 50MPH after he put a full Arrow race system on it, he was also clocked doing about 65MPH.

I think because it should only do about 35MPH (or whatever) you dont need a speedo that reads over 50MPH......................

what difference does a better cdi unit do??
better race timing and unlimited revs..
when they say unlimited revs i take it that means u can rev it as much as u want..but wont that blow ya bike up??
another problem i have with my bike is that when i start it, iput choke on and it revs at 3000 and then after 5-10 secs it will rev down to 1500 and most of the time cuts out. when its cold the only way i can rev it is with the choke?? i never had this problem bfore..
also what does the regulator/rectifier do??
