Apart from having what seemed to be some decent weather which in all fairness i would have gladly cut off my left testiball to have been able to gone out for a ride in, we have had the worst day i can remember where bikes are concerned :(

It started last night when having got all the bits back ready to put Jetski's bike back on the road, we set about putting the newly painted wheels back on the bike.

As she wanted to make the bike look nice and shiny she decided to use some of the Pro Bolt stuff, bad move, apart from it looking nice and shiny and new its particularly soft metal which doesnt take much abuse, and the same can be said for their so called "Titanium" disk bolts.

The very first bolt that i used to stick her rear disk on decided to shear off having only got it half way in and that wasnt particularly tight either.

So first thing this morning it was off down to my mates to use some of his kit, 3 hours later and lots of elbow grease and the use of drills, dremels, tungsten carbide bits etc etc and then finally a tap and die set, we have the bolt cleared and the new thread cut

Sorted, the wheels and disks go back together, it all gets fitted nice so we start on the new Remus exhaust can.

Bolts too long, can needs a universal strap, bolts get cut, universal strap gets fitted, another hour messing about!

Having fitted the can (which looks nice and shiny and makes a nice change from the carbon Micron, and goes well with the wheels ;) ) we stick the tank back on and fire her up.

Almighty racket!!!!!!!

Look underneath the bike and there is a hole in the collector on the exhaust system, not a problem if its a multi part exhaust however this one is all one piece from the engine to the can, its too big to weld and i can get one of my sausauge fingers into it!

So having gone through all that, all the fairings back on etc and a new Double bubble screen fitted, the sodding thing cant be ridden because it now sounds like a tractor :(

One of them days i suppose but if things happen in three's then i cant understand how it carried on. talk about "Death touch Dan" :( :(

If anyone comes across an exhaust system for a 95/96 ZXR400 then please let me know, i need to get another fitted so it can have its service and MOT before the 3rd week in May, and more importanly i need to get Jetski back on the road ;)

sounds like a poo day.
was a stroke of luck finding the exhaust pipes though. the only other option would have been s/s downpipes. micron and scorpion make them.

off down to West Sussex shortly anyway as the guy is giving us a set of headers and a mint fuel tank off the same bike for £120, thats the exhaust sorted and now she has a tank to match the track fairings she already bought :)

it might be slashing it down but at least things are looking up :)

Went down to Brighton, collected the downpipes, they are okay but rusty as you would expect, however the idea was to go to Halfrauds and get some rust remover, some high temp paint etc and paint them so they would last.

But, having done all that i thought i would see if the crack in the collector could be repaired so using some of the putty and bandage i stuck it all in and feck me sideways if it didnt work!!!! :D :D :D

Okay so i shelled out £60 for a set of downpipes, but its road legal because there aint any blowing and its a job that doesnt need doing now :) :)

REEEEEEESULT :D

lateshift if you want me to have a look to see if I can weld the downpipes up for you at some point just ask and i will pop down the pub on a wednesday night to have a look will give me a chance to meet people and a excuse to arrive in my car till I get a bike

Lateshift

I might take you up on that at some point mate ;)

The downpipes are basically 4-2-1 and if you imagine where it goes from 2 to 1 you have a crease between the 2 pipes, it has a seam there, and the pipe has cracked on one of the pipes just above the seam.

The hole itself is about 2cm long by 1cm high and having packed it with Gun Gum, rubbed it flush between the 2 pipes, i have then used heatproof silver foil from the bandage kit to cover it all and then used 2 packs of bandage over it (so it looks more like heatwrap) finally i bound it with wire to make sure that it bonded properly.

Once all that was done i ran the bike up to get the pipes hot and used a mini blow torch from the outside of it on the bandage, it seems to have set well enough for me to then go and do 30 miles on it anyway ;)

Anyway, now its back together and with the wheels done, what do you all think??

You're brilliant you are! :D

I was very close to just shelling out for a new micron delta system last night but the voice of reason talked me out of it. I'll probably need to at some point but i'm told it can wait a while :) BBF - we might just pop over to you at some point - not that Mick's exhaust first aid isn't effective - it's a PROPER JOB!! :D

H - I am back to crossing fingers for a stunner of a weekend next weekend. The amount of problems we've had has been ridiculous!! I WILL be going out for a ride with you on Sunday (although not if it's raining cos apparently the exhaust repair won't like it!) :D :D

Well (and i should really let her tell that tale but sod it :D ) she hasnt paid for them yet.

They were supposed to cost £180 inc the £20 postage from their place back to us, however she decided that she couldnt wait and drove to Gt Yarmouth on Friday to collect them.

When she got there the fella that did the work wasnt happy with the way they turned out thinking that the orange looked a bit dark and so he told her to take the wheels away, get them fitted and see how she feels about it.

If she doesnt like them then when she takes the bike off the road next (presuming after the summer) she can then send them back so he can have another go at them and then pay when everyone is happy with it :D :D :D

However she is happy with them so she is asking for a small discount ;)

And expects to pay around £140 give or take a tenner, so all in all a good result :)

AHEM!!! :D :D

Not too far from the truth I suppose :D They have a clear laquer top coat (just wipe clean - winner!) which when applied after the powder coat is supposed to brighten the colour, but it actually dulled it making the orange slightly darker the the orange on the bike.

I don't think it really notices personally.

I love em!! :D

Did I mention that the orange has SPARKLES in it!? :D
