well i'm sitting there feeling very pleased with myself because i've just done a blinding job on my clutch, think, a-ha i'll check my tyre pressures.

there is a nail in my back tyre!!!! it's all the way in, the tyre pressure as down to 20ish so i've put it back to 35 to see what it does.

if it holds is it ok to ride it to somewhere to get a new one fitted? can i repair it, again just to get me to the mechanic's?

the tyre is on its way out anyway so i was going to replace it before too long but i couldn't afford to get it done yet so i was going to leave it....

never rains but it pours huh....i've had a service done on the CBR, new chain and sprockets and new tyres on the CBR, new clutch plates for the 748 and now a new back tyre too :( fortunately i've already given a deposit to ricky for rockingham otherwise i would be having a rethink, i'm so poor!

If it holds the pressure, you could probably get away with ridding it to a tyre place, most places can do a repair on a tyre, I think the tyre place up near us in Billericay, Queens Park Tyres, charged me about a tenner to fix.

I'd prolly try plugging it with an off-the-shelf repair kit (worked for me many a time).

Horses for courses, but I never repair bike tyres for the road.

Just a mental thing I have about the repairs holding out at speed.

you must waste some money then? :D

a tyre plug if put in correctly is fine and will hold up to the speed the bike can do as long as the rest of the tyre is still in good nick that is, i had been doing speeds fantastic on my 9, when it came to get the tyres changed i soon noticed that it had been plugged from the inside and whilst i did think about what could have happened, i soon learnt that the laws of physics clearly state that it couldnt fall out because there was around 40psi trying to push it outwards rather than letting it fall in :D

Yep ....... I agree and understand fully with all above but i've been lucky enough only to ever have one puncture and the tyre was nearly naffed anyway so it hasn't ( as yet ) cost me a lot of money, but saying that the money would be worth the peace of mind.

As I said, horses for courses ( or should that be courses for horses ) ?

If the tyre is due for replacing then i wouldnt plug one either, purely because the tyre needs to be in pretty good nick in the first place to get the value out of plugging it.

However on GSXR, i spotted a nail in the rear and checked the pressure when i found it, similar to yours H, it was nice and flat, i put some air into it, left it over night to find it had only dropped about 10psi, that was enough for me to know it would hold whilst i drove the 35 miles to go and get the tyre replaced, it felt fine :)

If the tyre's that knackered, i just change it. However i am a big fan of plugging as i always seem to get puntures. My record so far is 3 plugs in a rear tyre.... :suprised1( and it ran fine)..

well think its gonna have to be a plug then because i really can't afford a new tyre yet.....if it does me a trip to manchester and back at the weekend, then it'll be great. if it does more than that then even better.

Blimey Cres I thought it was only legal to have the tyre pluged twice..........

Yeah, i know its a bit on the bad side but i was a bit more skint than usual, so it was a case of plug it or use the bus till i could afford a tyre.. Didn't realise there was a limit on how many you could use though...

Last one I had plugged cost £20 including balancing.........if its gonna cost that sort of money and the tyre is knackered, just change it. I don't suppose theres £20 worth of life left in it.

Get some part worns from Tark

i just got a new one in the end, didn't seem worth plugging when it was at the end of its life anyway..... so i had an urgent review of the finances and scraped it together. just the one sausage for me for the next few weeks :shooter
