RIGHT!!!!

Ive been thinking about this for a while, But i dont have all that much Dollar - and i can be pretty lazy!
Im going to be Joining a Gym in the next coming week or so, The cheaper the better to be honest! Money is still an issue, but it is a most def!
Ive been a member of cannons in the past, i cant really fault em....other than like £58 a month when i might not use it all that much....Is a bit steep i thought.....Elly recomended me to the Teckno Gym in RIVERSIDE DAMNIT! - never considered it my self, i thought it was only 2 foot long....But apparently its really good, and once you have joined its pay as you go....at £4 a go! so not to shabby!

Right heres the thing.....Everyone knows its good to have a Gym buddy......Not only to motivate you whilse your there......But to actually get you to keep going when your like tired and that...SOoooooooo would anyone else like to come to the gym with me?! or at all!? Ellys already gonna be there obviously, and i think Bonnet may be interested...Anyone else at all? :skip :skip :skip :skip
Ive had enough of being fat, time to become lean and mean again! hahahahahaha

Oooh, I need motivation to get fit, Lakesides not too far, and it sounds ok with money, the only problem i might face is my shift work. But im sure i can work around that, i get my management shifts a month in advance and can pretty much pick and choose the other shifts i do so let me know if this is def happening and i'll be there!

why do you need to join a gym to "get fit" getting fit starts with motivation, and you dont get that from shelling money out to use equipment you dont need to use to get fit in the first place ;)

if you want to get fit, go running first, that will kick start your metabolism into wanting to do other stuff ;)

My sentiments exactly! get some decent trainers, and that's all you need!

You can start by gently pounding the pavement, then as you feel it get easier over time, either increase the pace or include some hills. You could also include some sprinting, like 1 minute steady pace then 1 minute sprinting at your fastest pace (if you can last that long ;) ) Stop at grassy spots and knock out some push ups or sits ups or crunches for middle/upper body strength - sorted. If you're really lucky, you'll find a tree that's at optimum height for pullups!

There is always a way to train without paying gym membership :)

Yeah i agree with this but i just dont have the motivation to go running and the only person i know who runs does it at 5am and runs miles so theres no way i would do it with her, i'd die within minutes! I've been buggin my mates to do something with me but no one wants to, so if theres gonna be someone there who's as unfit as me then it will help me coz i'll be helping them and they'll be helping me. After all remember when i was getting fit for the TA, i lasted a week and was knackered so i stopped! Gotta get into it again so i can chase up my fitness test and know i will improve over time!

Im in, definately. Let me know times and places to meet you and i'll be there work permitting. Obv, Tues and Sat are best for me coz im off, mind you, Tues im sposed to spend time with him indoors but he goes training at 6pm, other than that i can fit in around work. Woooo, great. Cant wait!

Gives me some time on the bike as well, there's only so many times a girl can go thru brentwood and shenfield and back thru south weald to practice corners before it gets a tad boring! lol

i can't do running or anything good like footy coz of my ankle injury.

so i am a fan of good old walking instead, you can keep it up loads longer than you can running (or i can anyway) and it's good for your bum and thighs. fortunately i have an inbuilt walking system in my house - it's called a greyhound that needs to go out twice a day :grin2

riding a bike is good too. i really really wouldn't waste my money on a gym, i know some people use them but most people do something like 12 minutes actual exercise for every hour in the gym or somethin?

but if you are gonna go, then pay as you go is the way forward. if by riverside you mean the one at the leisure centre, then yeah it's not bad actually, i used to go (occasionally) when i lived in chelmsford.

oh.....and always take the stairs :skip

Cool, very very cool, esp if theres hardly anyone there to point and laugh  Plus I have my new ipod nano that i got for my birthday thats full of some pretty good music, makes me a little terror on the roads (stopped listening to it on the bike, i get a little silly when the good rock songs come on!) but it'll help me keep moving!

Woohoo, gonna get fit, it'll stop 'someone' from prodding my winter warmth and making sarky comments :shooter :(

id be your gym buddie. shout at you and such. but im at cannons. if youd have been interested before you could have got a great deal, but its finished now.

i joined the pru for private medical insurance at £17 a month and they gave me 6 months free cannons, and only £25 a month after that. but now theyre giving away boots vouchers which is a bit gay.

Actually, if we are going to get technical, done properly weight training is one of the best forms of weight loss, specifically because you continue to burn calories for over an hour after finishing a session, unlike doing aerobic activity which stops the moment your heart rate recovers to its normal work rate.

A good training regime to lose weight its to make sure that your calorific intake for the day is lower than the amount of calories you burn during the day whether that be through training or normal activity.

You cannot lose weight if your calorie intake remains higher than the burn rate, this is because you need to be at a calorie deficit to drop weight, and on the opposite side of the coin you need to increase calories in line with raising the metabolism to gain weight at a steady pace (forbulking up).

If you want to lose weight, then drop your calories to 2000 a day, do 3 cardio vascular sessions a week (that means aerobic activity for a minimum of 20 minutes (any less and its not effective) and in between do endurance weight sessions rather than for pure strength. Make sure you rest properly to allow the body to burn calories properly and above all make sure that the food you are putting in, only contains stuff that the body needs.

If you want tips, you are more than welcome, i up until a few years ago was still a qualified PTI, I helped train Jetski before she went and did the Army course and she then went on to work for Fitness first so the info isnt far away, even Doodlebug spends shed loads of time at the gym and has plenty of experience when it comes to training so before you go and throw money away, get the advice for free and then decide which way you are headed.

wow and i studied it for about 5 years of my life and i have a degree in basically fitness and training, and yes training and weight training can loose you weight as long as daily energy expenditure is greature than energy intake, however the type and duration of training is essential for maximal weight loss, obviously as fat, u need to encourage ur body to to burn fat specifically. this tye of exercise is aerobic (with oxygen) and also lipid metabolism (fat) only takes place during light intensity workloads of greater than 30 minutes duration (as fat metabolism only takes place after 20).

the type of weight training in jays gym, is maximan intenstity anaerobic (without oxygen) workloads, and is designed to build bulk muscle. to do this miminum repetitions maximum weight is best so only to a max of 8 repetitions but 6 is best and 4. this recruits type 1 muscle fibres used during strength exercises but also the low reps encourages muscle fibres to become slightly damage and when they are repaired they become larger in size hense bulking up.

as you mentioned in the opening paragraph sir shift about heart rate and the recovery process actually as aerobic exercise, long duration low intensity requires oxygen this is delivered by the blood as u know which means heart rate is masively increased, during weight training the heart cant pump the blood fast enough to supply the oxygen so although there is an increase it creates whats know as oxygen debt which needs to be re-payed during recovery which is what im assuming ur talking about, however this heart rate doesnt burn fat the increase is simply to re-pay the missing oxygen in the muscles and rmove lactic acid from the blood. during the recovery theres no form of energy expenditure as ur not doing anything, u are recovering.

you were spot on tho weight loss is simply a combination of diet and exercise, the balance between energy intake and enery expenditure must be right

dunno if spider is about but how much weight did i help you to lose in 2 months with the diet and exercise plan i made for you?
