I need a bit of advice again.
I recently fitted an end can without a baffle and i seem to be low on power and am only doing about 120miles to a take of fuel. I am told that my jets need doing. Does anyone know somewhere that are reliable and not expensive , or know how to do it and wouldnt mind explaining to me how to do it.I have some mechanical knowledge (12 months motor mechanic) but am a bit lost with bikes!!.

First off, when you say it seems to be low on power, where specifically?

does it feel slow pulling off or does it just feel gutless when you start to crank the throttle open from around 4000 onwards??

What are you comparing the fuel useage too? what sort of mileage was it getting before you fitted the end can?

What brand end can is it?

Lots of questions eh? :D ;)

Before you go down the road of jetting (which it may need doing, it all depends on if all this happened after the can was fitted) you need to eliminate all the possibilities, on most modern bikes jetting isnt necessary now when you just stick a can on, granted if its a straight through pipe then it could be effect the performance, however if its using too much fuel its running too rich, and thats normally a good thing for getting the power up (obviously within reason though).

I suspect the problem could lie in something else connected to it ;)

well it seems low from about 3000 rpm to 6000rpm and then all of a sudden it kicks in (good but can be a bit un-nerving)
It was doing about 200 miles to a tank befor i fitted the can.
And it is a carbon can company made silencer with no baffles.
Somebody mentioned that it could that there is now now back pressure as the baffles are removed?

The flat spot through that particular rev range does suggest that it needs jetting in that case, especially when you were getting such a high mpg before.

Have you got the baffle for the can to try with it in first?? (this should give it the backpressure it needs to confirm it).

If not then you need to get it jetted, its not a particularly hard job but the kits themselves can be around £80 and then the labour to fit it would normally sting you for around 2 hours work with some dyno time to set it properly (unless the guy fitting it knows exactly what combination of jets work best on that type of bike).

In fact what year bike is yours??
