On my blade about half way down the exhaust pipe there is an attatchment fitted with two cables in it , i opened the box up and there are 2 cables fitted on a swivel , this part is connected to the exhaust , any ideas peeps ? :rockon

Its a 'flapper valve' it controls the release of exhaust gas through the underseat silencer, its for emissions regulation, sound regulation and also for keeping the power delivery smooth :)

so can i adjust it to make the exhaust louder instead of putting new pipe and can on and remapping cos it will cost a small fortune :skip

I think it can be removed to be honest but i wouldnt put money on it not needing a mapping once its done, because the ECU would surely rely on the adjustments it makes for the engine management?

Its a common enough mod and there is plenty of info around to suggest that people do take them off though, however if you want extra noise i would just go for a different end can, most of them do not need remapping because the ECU controls the fueling on fuel injected bikes ;)

The more i read on this, the less i would be inclined to mess around with it, it would appear that the butterfly valve in the exhaust is an integral part of the engine management so its best to leave it alone.

It would also appear that there is a 'flapper valve' in the airbox somewhere which people remove to get rid of a slight dip in power at the 5000-7000 rpm range :)

My advice would be to just go for an end can, they are reasonably priced and shouldnt need a mapping because as mentioned before its the ECU and the butterfly valve that measures the back pressure of the system to change the fueling (this is specifically what the butterfly is for).

do you ppl just buy bikes with out reading any thing about them, or is it,that looks nice i'll have that one please .
that is one of the main Features of the bike.
as the down pipes come down they go into the exhaust valve block which has four ports with butterflies in them, which can be opened depending on what gear, speed and how much you have Opened the throttle, which fools the engine because of the pulses from the exhaust etc etc.

yam where the first to use it .. was called an EXUP , any one remember them.

The Exhaust Ultimate Power Valve system, (revolutionary system that changed power delivery on motorbikes :) ).

It was a follow on from the revolutionary YPVS :)

oh and how we liked the RD350LC :)
