whats the best option for my gixer 6 '99? I want to look into getting new performance brake discs and pads, no specific reason just want some reassurance really! nothing too expensive, although i do want some decent ones.

Bonnet said to ask you oh so masterful ricky! :laugh1 :laugh2 :laugh1

Depends on what your budget is to be honest, although the stock disc rotors are fine, even better if used with EBC HH brake pads :)

If you want to go the whole hog then you can shell out for some "Braking wavy" disks or some of the "Stealth Hyperlites" which apart from looking pretty trick work well.

It all comes down to budget, but any of the EBC, Ferodo, Carbone Lorraine pads as long as they are sintered (HH) will work fine and better than the standard ones ;)

speaking to him about what? not for fitting it all surely, its an hour at most to do the lot and the money is better in your pocket ;)

calipers off, wheels off, disk off, what could be easier?? :D

while the caliper is off, fluid reservoir lid off, caliper pins out, pads out, backs of pads copper slipped, pads in, pins in, wheel on, calipers on, pump brake until it feels nice and tight, fluid reservoir lid back on :D

And if you are letting your tyres get to the stage where they are showing braid, then i am afraid having only been on a bike for a short while (and being derestricted i take it) you are picking up some nasty "dangerous" habits there my friend, rubber is what keeps you on the road it shouldnt get that low now ;) the points start mounting up, especially at your age, get tugged and they will be all over that bike like a rash :D

what hoses have you got on the srad?? you'll see a better gain from ditching the standard hoses and fitting braided lines. also, try 'Performance Friction' pads ;)

Lateshift, It wasn't too bad until the morning after Wednesday night ;) lol I am picking up bad habits, but ill get out of em. Had to use my bike to get to work :( otherwise it would of been garaged until it's done. Good news tho, Pete allenby has fitted my bike into his busy schedule. It's in for tomorrow, so i may be able to come out Sunday! Ill have to take it easy tho :(

Cheers Troutslayer :D

The tyre will be fine as long as you are progressive ;)

most garages will tell you to take it easy for the first hundred or so miles but in fairness the harshness of UK roads is enough to take the edge off a tyre after 25 miles of "spirited" riding.

when i got my 2CT's fitted the first thing i did was hit the limiter in 1st and 2nd in a straight line to see how they held up, not a twitch, 25 miles on then i did the burnham bends at probably the fastest i have been up there as my own ZX9R was chasing me at the time :D

if you try throwing the bike around rather than letting it roll progressively into the corner then maybe, but most new tyres these days take very little to scrub in ;)

Shorty......forget the discs, leave them as they are ! As the pres said use the HH pads ....... then fit braided hoses ! The difference will notice.

nah the HH pads all pretty much go zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz :D

its only when they go krkrkrkrkrkrkrkrkrkrkrkrkrkrkr (and you grab thin air :D ) that you know they arent working anymore aswell :D

cheers Guv! I'm taking all this into consideration! by the sounds of it this is my best option! By the way, had the new rear tyre fitted. went out for a long ride (in all about 80 or so miles) and then towards the end i decided to see how it grips on some roundabouts! Turns out it's pretty much worn in, so i attempted to get my knee down.......

And succeeded...... OH YES!!!!!!! :laugh2

which tyres did you get?? i just had michelin pilot sports fitted front+rear to my 99 srad600, i wasnt too sure about them, but spoke to my tyre guy, told him what i use the bike for, and he asked if i like the bike to drop in quick or progressive, i said quick. these are what he recommended, and so far i think he was bang on.

he also supplies all our wets, slicks and inters for the endurance racing, so he knows his tyres and i trust his choice when i tell him i need tyres, and let him fit what he thinks best :)

Very surprised that he didnt recommend the Pilot Powers or the Pilot Power 2CT's over them ones Trouty, the Pilot Sports dont come close to the either of the afore mentioned tyres and dont last as long either ;)

I assume this came down to price probably :)

sorry, yes, they ARE pilot powers. pilot sports are what he took off the bike :)

Lateshift

cant fault the Pilot Powers, probably the best tyre made since the Diablo ;)

gotta say, this afternoon was the first time out in the wet with them, and bear in mind its a bit slippier out there since we've had a good dry spell... pulling away from lights then cracking it open, there was enough traction to lift the front without spinning up the rear :)

i didnt try it whilst cranked over though... maybe someone else could try that and report back... ;)

i'm happy with them so far.

I used mine on my first Mille in the wet without any problems at all, i was expecting them to be on the same sort of level as Supercorsa's as in fantastic in the dry but a bit "iffy" in the wet, i have to say that i am more than happy using them in the pouring rain as they felt just as good in the wet as they did in the dry, a definite confidence boost :)

I recently ditched the 208's that came with the new bike, i had no faith in them at all, sticking 2CT's on sorted all the problems and i managed to get to the edge of the tyre on the way back from having had them fitted :)
