Well what a topsy turvey day.

All started about lunch time when someone pointed out the date and got me all worried. But overcame that. Then (seems insignificant but read on) my boots started squeking so i joked about i would need to put some oil on them to stop the noise.

Went for test at 3:27, passed with 3 minors.

Got round to lomax's house where my bike was. got my leathers on, and set off about 6:45. Took it nice and easy out of burnham, enjoying the ride and the bends. got onto the A130 towards the A12, and decided to open her up. Got to 150 and suddenly the speedo went slowly down to zero and I started slowing down. Checked mirrors and a big black line behind me and lots of smoke. Just about made it to the side of the road to see oil gushing (i mean gushing) out of the fairing. So i quickly turned it off and began to panic. Lomax then arrived and i saw his bike was covered in oil, so was his visor. Proceeded to panic some more before laying on the verge and let out a little tear. Calmed down a bit, had a fag and began to inspect the damage.

It appears the the chain snapped, ripping off the chain gaurd, the undertray, seat unit, the rear hugger, number plate, and oil filter (hence the oil loss). The engine still run till i switched it off (no worning lights so hopefully no damage) and the gearbox will still select gears so doesn't look terminal.

Got it recovered, then on the drive home it all started to sink in how lucky I had been. Could have been a lot more than a damaged bike at that speed!

On the upside, by brand new boots dont squeek anymore as the left one has about a litre of oil soak into it!

Looks like a mix of both then, congrats on the pass, well done you.

As for the bike...................... at least ur boots dont squeak anymore!

Chin up, smile, and if you can, laugh about it, at least it was relatively minor coz at that speed it could have been something truely nasty!

wow in the time it took me too write that and post it (and be destracted by nekkid bike riders pictures again) 2 other people posted! grr :)

right, phoned the dealer i bought from this morning and they sent me new chain, sprockets, oil and filter and indicators.

took the bike apart tonight and several bits of engine casing fell off so it's totally ******ed. The front sprocket is VERY worn and two teeth have snapped off. In my eyes they sold me a dangerous bike.

So i called them back and they offered me an exchange, or to supply and fit another engine all at no cost to me. So cant say fairer than that. But they dont have any 2001 R6's and i dont like the 99 ones they have. Also, i bought all my leathers to match the bike and my exhaust and steering damper will only fit that bike. So i'm going to ask for a refund and go and source another bike the same as that one

keep your eyes peeled!

I agree with you NotaClue:grin2 , if they've shafted you with that deffo go for a refund and elsewhere........I know its a pain with having the matching kit but you wont trust them again - I sure wouldnt - Id be on the phone to trading standards expecially if they gave you a valid MOT certificate for that machine:shooter .....happy hunting...:rockon

i didn't use my brakes, hence the 15 minute walk to go and pick up the chain lol. Was a good way to waste half hour though waiting for the recovery lol

Right Update - Company have offered a full refund and will do a bank transfer tomorrow when I drop the V5 off tomorrow. Put a deposit on a new one which I am picking up monday after work. It's an extra 700 quid, but it has 11 thousand less miles than the last one, alarm, new tyres and battery, tax, and harris rear sets and is in mint condition. Well worth the extra 700 I think

yes they do, if its not adjusted properly etc then they can fail you. whether they would or not, or whether they would just put it on advisory/report, depends how bad it was i guess....

having said that it must have to be pretty bad because my CBR went in for its MOT recently with a chain on its very last legs with a noticeable tight spot and it was fine!
