Can anyone recomend a new can for my R1 2001. I want one stamped road legal with a removable baffle. I need someone who can reccomend a quality sounding one. Would you also know if I would have to retune the bike once the can was fitted?. Any advice much appreciated!!

If it is just an end can you are fitting then a retune will not be necessary. I think the current flavour of the month is a Blue Flame!

I'd go along with that...........but I'd would also have it dyno'd just in case

BlueFlame are a bit poopoo, if you really want something with a removable baffle and fantastic sound get an Akrapovic.

No need for a dyno run if you buy a new can as the fuel injection will adjust itself to the can and if your after a power commander to spice things up dont bother they dont improve R1's for some reason.

Thanks to all for your advice. I will decide between the Akropovic and the blue flame I reckon. The Blue Flame is about half the price but I would like to hear both to hear the difference. I am off to the Motogp next sunday, Im sure there will be a few there to check out. Thanks again for loads of help, real quick, cheers!

thats a pub myth....most fuel injected bikes will make no adjustment when just an end can(s) is fitted

only bikes fitted with lambda sensor in the exhaust system as part of the fuel injection will make any adjustment

most if not all bikes will run leaner with an aftermarket can fitted... only a real problem is they run really lean (worth having your bike check on a dyno to see how lean it runs, as manufactures do setup bike lean to get through the emissions test anyway and by fitting an freer flowing can will make matters worse)

R1 for the road don't bother with a full system, as a full system will remove the valve in the exhaust and your lose the mid-range (but gain up top)

like the boss says your 2001 is carb'd so might want jets fiddled with depending on the air/fuel result from a dyno run

This is a remus revolution, with a removable baffle,on a 636, sounds good with the baffle in as well:grin2

This is a blue flame with removable baffle, but it's on a Tuono.

I am afraid to say, Akrapovic's for the R1/R6, just the same as Yoshi for the Suzuki ;)

And the R1, didnt get fuel injection until 2002 so with it having carbs, i would definitely recommend getting on a dyno to have a look at the fueling, as Two has already pointed out these bikes are set to run slightly lean to get through emmissions testing, adding an end can (and they can vary in throughput massively) can worsen the fueling considerably ;)

I would have recommended Blue Flame, but i do know that the earlier ones were better, the newer cans they produce don't sound anywhere near as nice and often dont give any performance increase.

Arata

Oh and given that there is next to no difference other than noise on the new cans that are coming out these days (most gains are made from the actually downpipes/headers) it would be worth going for a can that has "road use" stamped on it, but has a removeable baffle for track use, at least then you don't give the Police any advantage and the baffle is easily carried under the rear seat ;) (and it stops any MOT tester "trying" to give you any grief for the can too.
