ok i'll have to explain this the best i can so bare with me,
ok.... well since my dads mechanic m8 fitted a new exhaust 4 me my little neo's has been playin up and not goin over 35mph whereas it used to do 45/50 mph which i thought was odd!
however wen my little brother came back from my dads this weekend he said that he had overheard my dad and he's mate sayin that wen they fitted the new exhaust they left some kind of pin or somethin (my bro couldnt remember the word they used) to restrict the bike so it would only do 35mph and i wondered if a) that makes sence to any1 and b) theres a way of un-doing woteva they did without grassing my little bro up!! any ideas?????

Is your bike a scooter?

If so then i know your problem. To restrict scooters they have whats called a resonant pipe on the exhaust. This is a pipe that spurs off you pipe and is welded shut at the end. This causes the exhaust not to get out as well and looses power. When you get your bike derestricted they cut this pipe off and weld it back up. They also take out some restricting nylon washers in your gerabox to allow it to get a better top speed.

I would have thought they bought a new standard exhaust and it still have the pipe on. Look around for a big willy on your exhaust!!

lol i agree although it might be simply be a washer that is spot welded into the flange of ur exhuast pipe or ive even seen them as a blank in the actual tail section have alook if ya can .. ull see that ur 15-20 mm tail section will be reduced to 10mm or so ..

Or it could be a washer spot welded in the exhaust. But she will have to take to exhaust off to check this. My way is easier to spot. If you cant find the willy then take it off and have a look inside.

errr right thanks guys now u mention it tark i sorta remember some kinda pipe that matches ur description, i'll check it in the mornin, or wen every1 else is awake anyhows and see. thanks. so wot do i do? do i need a machenic to take the pipe off?? i would think so huh?

The easiest way is to chop it off as short as you can and then weld the end back up. This still leaves a lil willy but wont be a noticable restriction. Thats what they do iof you take it to a shop.

the best way is to chop it right off and grind it flush and weld a new plate over and re paint the little section.

Take the exhaust off and take it to a welding firm. They will be much cheaper than a bike shop.

PS first place to look is at the bottom of the exhaust just in front of the back wheel :wink:
