hi, does anybody know why my indicators may stop working all together, i was out on my bike last nyt and they workd, i went out this morning and nothing. they only flash when i arm/disarm my alarm so they all work, would this mean that i need a new relay or wat.....i haven't a clue, any advice would be helpful

a standard car one from Halfords will do the trick, may just have to alter the connections to it though, nothing major.

as is the case alarms tend to override the relay because they flash all 4 indicators at the same time, so if you have the indicator on and there is no ticking then the fault lies between the switch and the relay, but as gsxr dude, it will more than likely be the relay :)

ohhhhhh deary moi lol...it doesn't make a ticking noise, my dad seemed to think that it was a new relay, how much do you think that will cost?

£5-£10 from Halfords :)

you are only looking for a standard 12v relay, as i said because they tend to have differing connections (although its will still be only 2 wires per connector) it may just be a case of changing the connectors on it, but its not a task thats going to take you long :)

no that sounds more like the rectifier and that is something you dont want to be messing around with ;)

the indicator relay is a small black (in nearly all cases) rectangular box affair with 2 connections on the bottom, 1 for each of the indicator connections, they are normally mounted at the rear of the bike, but can be up front too.

Its about the size of a matchbox normally :)

i unpluged the flasher unit and took it to a motorcycle shop near me and they said that they dont know of any flasher units with four wires coming out of it which mine has and it is the flasher unit because it comes from the indicators front and back and it goes the the indicator light that tells me when they are on..... im confused

what bike is this, nearly all bikes use the same sort of relays

its a gilera RCR 50, 2003, the bloke said they only usually have 3 pins unless it has an auto turn off thingy you no when the indictors turn themsleves off but it doesn't do that so he didnt no why else the fourth would be there

Lateshift

Not too sure what he is on about there then, most flasher relays i have come across tend to have had 2 post connectors on them, left and right indicators and thats about it.

I have looked all over the place to try and find a manual for this bike, i found a place that does spares but the catalogue they are listing for that bike doesnt actually list the relay,

4 pin relays are common on many bikes including Gilera and Peugeot scooters. Most modern Jap bikes have two pins. Some bikes still use 3 pins although this is generally only found on old style British machines. Relays are not standard across models and although it is possible to buy a "Universal" type, these are usually limited to one manufacturer across their ranges.

There is a commonality between relays from Geographic locations so a relay for a Eurozone bike sold in France may well fit a similar one from a different company sold in England.

Also watch out for 12v and 6v versions.

Relays are designed to operate at different loads and buying the wrong type will cause you problems. You can see evidence of this by fitting certain types of mini indicators to your bike. They will flash quicker than they should with many relays so resulting in an MOT failure. The cure is to buy a different type of relay.

well im not sure if that is the relay now lol...the wires dont match to my indicators...the only other thing is me and my dad took all the fairings off and looked for it for about an hour. we cannot find it anywhere, the box i found is the only lil one i could find but i dont think its the ones, my dad used 2 rebuild old bikes and hasnt got a clue with newer ones and i have a slight lack of knowledge probably because iv only just started riding this last month.

the only information i can find on this bike is that it is basically a re-badged Derbi Senda, however even under that its difficult to actually find anything about the relays

a couple of pictures for you, to see if it looks anything like these?

I think you need to do a little legwork here Richy ;)

The manual for this bike seems to be non existant, i dont know for definite what year bike you have and what equivalent Derbi Senda it is.

Strangely enough i have found plenty of references to what i would normally term a regulator/rectifier on the Senda, however i have seen it on parts Microfiches listed as regulator/rectifier/flasher (i suppose it is possible that they could have an "all in one" unit??

Normally the relays etc are mounted closer to the battery end of the bike due to the wiring looms orginating from the battery, but on some bikes the relays can be found up front near the headlamp area.

It would have been helpful if having heard the indicator relay working, you could remember to start with where the clicking was coming from :D

Failing that bite the bullet and get in contact with the Gilera technical department and simply ask them where the relay is located and what the part number is ;)

i've found it for definate this time, its the blue box with the heatsink on it that i was thinkin it was before, it seems that my indicator control centre is in the same little box as the horn control and aload of other things. i doubt one of these is going to be cheap:( :( thanx for the help any ppl

well, i did it the cheap way,:grin2 ...yesterday i bought a 12v flasher unit for 13 quid so i didn't really want to spend another 40 plus V.A.T on a whole new box thiny rectifier thing lol because it was only the indicator part that was screwed, so my dad told me what i needed to do and i cut wires, soldered wires, bypassed other wires, made no sense to me what i was doing but it actually works:confused: :grin2 , so im quite happy with myself :grin2 lolol,
