I have a suzuki ay50 with a sports exhaust and i find off the lights from a stand still it bogs down until about 20mph (painfully slow) and then picks up, however when riding my brothers aprillia sr50 it didnt seem to suffer this same problen and hardly bogs down at all. Is this just because its only 50cc and i'm expecting to much of it or is there somehting i an do about this.

Cheers, Jon

You need a bike with a clutch then you could slip it.

I think they sell power bands in my local bikeshop, I'll ask if they've got one for your bike http://www.essexbikers.co.uk/forum/images/icons/icon6.gif

It only 50cc so it wont be throwing off the back off the lights any time soon, i'm just waiting to get a 400 now.

I thnk it will be something to do with the Aprilla has 2 powerbands and they are made of a more stretchy material to the bands the suzuki use.

I think Magnum or the Barnett ones are the better ones out there ;) :)

Have you tried pushing your bike backwards a couple feet, the band will tighten around the rear axel and flick the bike forward with more thrust when you accelerate!

I'm starting to think i shoudn't of brought this up due to most of the replies i'm getting :(

Only messing with ya mate. Most people started out on a 50. I had a TS50 when I was 16. Cant really help you to be honest. I think it will be something to do with the Suzuki being older or different state of tune. I am not sure if the Aprilla has any kind of port timing. My brother has an Aprillia MX50 Super Motad and I know that doesn't have anything like that. Maybe your 50 is choked up a little and it dont pull right till higher up the rev s. How old is it? Might need to clean the ports up.

Didn't realise we were talking about PEDs! ! I take it all back! Get yourself a propper bike! lol.

Your ay50 might be slower due to the roller weights in the gearbox and how it changes the drive. If you have asports exhaust it will change the way your engine makes its power and you should use different roller weights in the gearbox to suit. Is this the case?

We don't mean no offence dude, we just can't pass up the opertunity for a giggle :grin2

Iv been treated like any other biker here and been urged to go on rideouts even though i have had a cbt for the past 5 years and riding a 125cc bike.

Have you tried putting optimax petrol into the bike, even though it's only a 50 it should help a bit with acceleration!

You wanna check your CBT! Thought they only lasted 2 years! lol.

ok then, yeah its completely standard apart from the sports exhaust. Maybe i should just give up an wait the 6 months till i can get a bigger bike lol.:grin2 The only thing on my mind is whether i should get a car or a bike at 17, bike are more fun, but cars shield you from the english winter!

have tried holding it on the brakes and building the revs up then going it sounds like the exhaust has moved the power up the power band and messed everything else up might be better just to put the std one back on or look on the webb and find the info regarding rejetting etc

Jcaller
17-08-2006, 04:32 PM
Yeah that sounds about right because higher up in the revs once i'm going its fine. How much would rejetting cost roughly, just because i dont fancy spending to much on my bike due to it only being a ped lol.

rembrandt

its wouldnt be worth the cost because the auto clutch system would need altering as well , your best bet is to fit the origanal pipe of just put up with it

Tark
18-08-2006, 04:29 PM
Get the sports pipe on E-bay! lol.

Jcaller
18-08-2006, 05:40 PM
I would do that but i can go about 45 on it at the moment and goin back to the standard pipe mean limited to 30 which it painfully slow!

Tark
18-08-2006, 05:47 PM
Does your standard exhaust have a little pipe on it that is welded at the end? If so this is a resonant pipe used to cause bad back pressure as a way of restricting them.

Jcaller

This is the best picture i could find of the exhaust as i no longer have mine, hope this helps tark.

may be try google and put in derestricting suzuki ay50 and see what comes up

Tark
18-08-2006, 07:14 PM
you cant see it on that picture. It is like a pipe off the pipe and will usually hide just in front of the rear wheel. Like an exhuast willy.

Jcaller
19-08-2006, 03:22 PM
No it didnt have an exhaust willy lol and after doing a search on google it looks like for the amount of money i would shell out i wouldn't really get respectable power gains so i guess i'll keep saving for a bigger bike in 6 months time.
