So how did those of you who went on the track day get on round the Lydden 'go Kart' track then?

Did anyone discover what the injuries were to the guy who came off at the far end of the circuit? I assume he broke somthing.

Funnily enough that aviator is Paddock Bend at Lydden.:grin2

Lydden is the most forgiving circuit to crash at but I take by the glove throwing post you're not injured, which is the main thing?

I had a great time, and the only damage was where one of the straps holding it on the trailer scuffed on the journey, and a bar end fell off on the way home.........apart from my tyres looking like they've got a bit warm!

Lydden eats tyres, especially rears. You must have been 'on it' then.;)

Scuffed elbow, feel like I've had my head kicked in, but generally fine. Did pay that gravel trap a little visit but managed to stay on, it was locking the back wheel approaching Hairy Hill hairpin that had me on my arse. Threw a very good paddy though :)

Was Jules out on her 400?

Oh yeah I forgot you had a GSXr 750. I thought you might have been trying to wrestle the Mille round.

She was nipping under you into Paddock while you were trying to get the wheel back on the ground then.;):laugh1

Pity I went and mullered myself at Brands. I was going to take the RS250 down to Lydden for an airing between meets. It'd been nice to see a few faces.

From what I saw of Jules, she was lapping almost as quick as Mick, but obviously was getting stuck in traffic when she couldnt get passed on the straights. I think she was about 4 seconds behind, until the last sessions where mick started to get the hang of the beast. :)

Thats the only trouble with track days on a small bike. You can do the times (I'm quicker on both the 400and the 250 round Lydden than I was on a Fireblade) but the no over taking mid corner rule they have on trackdays these days mean you spend alot of time stuck behind bigger bikes in the corners.

It would be nice to give some of these up and coming track girls some instruction too ;) :D

In the early sessions, she was outbraking me, out dragging me out of the corners too :D

On this track day the only rule on overtaking was do it safely, they allowed us to go under and around :D

I felt a bit out of place with some of that to be honest because there were plenty of occassions where you knew full well you could have just screamed up the inside of someone going into the bend, but the thought was always there about whether or not the person in front would change their line, once i got into the swing of it i just went with the flow but for a fair few of the sessions i held back when i clearly had a better line into the corner, i am betting that was pretty much the same for most of us, because of the size of the circuit, you very rarely got a clean run at it.

Its a good technical circuit but so knackering trying to string the corners together, i really would have loved to have gone on Juliets bike and did offer to let her go on mine for a session but she was having none of it :D

Ah it was a Hottrax day wasn't it. I normally do the Focused Events and 100 % days as they have an ACU group in the off season. I think they're getting a bit fed up of racers close passing.
Personnaly although it gets frustrating I tend to be over polite on track days. The last thing you want when your out for a zing round on your road bike is some numpty racer barging under you.

Actually lydden isn't too bad. You can pass most bigger bikes with plenty of room in most places.

If I get out on a track day your doing I'll let Jules have ago on one of my race 400.
She'll either love it or hate it. If it's the first you'll have your work cut out building one. :grin2

OOoooooooohhhhhh :D :D :D :D race 400!!! :D fanx!! Although I'm not sure I'd have to bottle for it tbh! :D

Certainly don't have the bottle to have a go on the SRAD! Never ridden a bigger bike and a track prepared 750 is probably not the best place to start! LOL :D

I don't think I'll EVER get to the point where I need to improve the spec of the 400, let alone get a bigger bike :(

I'd definately like to see your bike though perilous! :D

What power are your bikes putting out at the wheel at the moment Phil?

Hers is hovering around 60 at the wheel at the moment but could be losing a little due to a slight blow on one of the exhaust downpipes, not too sure what the torque is at the moment but it seems to be picking up really well out of corners with that gearing change (fitted a new DID chain and renthal sprockets last week)

Swapping to 2 longer braided hoses direct to the master cylinder and EBC pads has seemed to help with the braking too judging by how late she was braking :D

82 with the flatslides. 77.5 with the CV carbs on the worst air pressure, humidity etc day they've been dynoed.

They both rev to 15500 or 16000 depending where I set the limiter.

I'm not sure of the torque but both bikes pull well from 6000.
All that tuning and they're still miles off a bog standard 600.:laugh1 Still I don't race against 600s. ;)

On the same Dyno a bog standard one made 56hp.

For Lydden I run 14>48 or sometimes 14>49, so taking into account my extra revs your 14>47 was about bang on.

If it has the 14mm master cylinder putting on the 5/8 one (common to a lot of bikes) will futher improve the brakes.

I was amazed at the difference I got from a different master cylinder, braided hose and race pads made in the MZ.

Still a single pot caliper, but the braking was amazing.

I used a master cylinder off an NC30 I think, not ideal because it was supposed to be for twin discs. Never mind.

I was using michelin M1s on my 18inch wheels on the MZ. Plenty grippy enough to touch the exhaust down round the end of the start/finish straight.

Having had a good read up about the FZr, it seems most tend to go for a 17" rear wheel from an 88-89 GSXR750, or an F2 FZR, or even the TZR 250 but all of them seem to need a fair bit of machine work to get the hub to fit.

It would appear that the GSXR options is easier, using a GS500 sprocket carrier and sprocket cut down as a spacer next to the carrier, you then mount the FZR sprocket and it all lines up nice, leaving just the swing arm to be drilled out slightly wider to take the GSXR spindle ;)

Failing that it seems to point towards a 150/60/18 rear tyre being the most comfortable fit in which case Pirelli Dragons seem to be the ones normally used.

However Bridgestone do the BT014's, BT092 and BT090 pro in the 150/60/18 size anyway so it shouldnt be too difficult to pick some up :)

nope, not sure i can... got used to big bike luxury and space for my legs! actually, not too sure the bike will run either! half the parts are still on other peoples bikes! i've promised not to reclaim them until after brands gp.

to be honest, i'm more concerned about doing a grid start and getting up to pace quickly... haven't done a grid start for ages (but done all but one of our 'le mans' starts), and by the time 10 laps has gone by i'm just starting to find a pace for the next 50 laps...

Harriebird - i'm the easy darren to spot at krc, the others are all ugly blokes.

H'mm having to go flat out from the off on cold tyres again might be entertaining, especially into Chessuns.

Last time i went back to the Aprilia two smoke narrow power band after a diesel the gear changes sort of went shift whuuu, "sh#t sh#t", slip the clutch, accelerate, brake, shift, whuuu, "sh#t, sh#t sh#t sh#t" and so on.:laugh1 :grin2 :grin2 Not to mention head butting the screen when I forgot how sharp the brakes were. (Not that that's a problem with TZRs.:grin2 )

It's still nice to get back on one though, gets the brain working and the corner speed up again.

You're gonna have your work cut out, they're well on it this year, I can't beleive the times they're running at some circuits. They've had some absolutely blinding races.

Makes me laugh. You see a lot of people turn their noses up when you talk about the TZRs (and 400s for that matter) yet on the last Brands track day I did the R1 hero of the day, (road bike) who spent most of the day telling everyone about himself, barely managed to match the times
of a 53 year old (Colonel) on a TZR.
