Right well i had to drain the oil out the SRAD to take the engine casing off, so i did. a few days later i went to put the nut that you take out to drain the oil see pic 1 below....

and i tighned it up but forgot to put the copper washer on so i tore up the thread and also managed to crack its surroundings, you can just see in the below pics...

Don't know much about engines, but it seems well cheap to me!

It all depends on how desperate people are for an engine i suppose with Ebay, there are 5 days left on it, but essentially there are a lot of parts on there that could help you if you get any other problems, a clutch and gearbox for one, a crankcase and cynlinder head, pistons, the full monty :)

One of them went the other week for £300 on a buy it now for a 750, but didnt get bought for 5 days ;)

(mind you the starting bid was £200 anyway :D ).

The NRC cover is top notch, they dont come much better than that, the sump and plug should be intact which means you take the sump off (leaving the plug in) and whack a new gasket/sealant on it and you are good to go.

Tough call but £150 for an engine isnt bad at all, try and find out the history, it might even be worth just whipping your engine out and banging that one in ;)

Most bike engines should be easy to drop out, and refit. Disonnect it, slide a trolley jack under, get a mate and lower it down. Refitting is the reverse.

It looks pretty straight forward to me on the SRAD, once all the external stuff is disconnected its a case of making sure you have the right tool to take off the lower rear mounting bolt (its a castellated type nut, although according to good old Haynes a 22mm socket cut down to fit would do the trick.

The rest of it is a case of slackening off the pinch bolts on the upper mounting bolt brackets and whipping the bolts out.

It looks susprisingly easy if the truth be known as long as you have a trolley jack underneath it all, i wouldnt have thought it should take more than a couple of hours to take one out and put the other straight back in and get it all running again, barring the odd stop for the obligatroy cup of tea and stand back pose to admire how hard you are working ;) :D

(not to mention the odd sigh of desperation, the rub of the hair and face with the oily forearm, the muttering under the breath of "oh ffs" :D )

well i have asked the essential questions ie if he knows the mileage of the bike how long its been a track bike if the sumps ok etc so i guess i have to sit and wait

ok his reply was ....

No idea about the mileage. It was already a track bike with no V5 when I bought it. Sump and plug are in place and the whole thing is completely undamaged. Pete

what do we think guys, i guess the options are to try and bodge it with some chemical metal, strip the bike and sell it, swap the engines or swap the sumps??

I'd swap sumps, if the bike was a track bike with no V%, then you may have trouble changing over the engine, the number may have been removed due to a write off.

that concerned me, but then track engines do tend to be well looked after

its just a bit tricky to line up. nothing too major. when i did it it was just me and jon, but i think it would be a lot easier with another pair of hands. my mum did help a bit, but shes not strong enough to hold an engine in place while i located the bolts.

you got a bargin... that canadian nrc cover is the best part of 80-90 squid

as long as the engine has its number is intact your onto a winner

(if it hasn't just change the sump)
