you getting plenty of compression? it may well be that the oil ring is allowing too much through into the cylinder?

(my money would have been on the oil/petrol mixture being out due to the oil feed though???)

You don't have an oil ring on a 2 smoke.
Although we never tried its some of the racing two strokes don't run a bottom ring at all.

If the rings-piston are really worn it is conceivable it could smoke more just because it's running so inefficiently but as everybody's said,if it's oily smoke then it's most likely the fuel oil mix (ie. the pump) or other wise the next most likely is the crankshaft oil seal.

If you can keep it running at all the easiest way to check the oil seal is to thrash it about a bit,let it stand a bit and then see if the gear box oil level has gone down.

Sometimes if you put a cheap old cr#ppy two stroke in it wil make them smoke more. (But that's clutching at straws really.

Any other smoke (e.g white smoke) is the same as a four stroke.

I did wonder about oil rings on them and in truth dont remember seeing one on the RS125 :D

Probably defeats the object of having 2 stroke oil and an oil ring :D

I take it the oil residue in the pipe has built up since it's been smoking.

I know it's adaft question but it's not just smoking when the expansion pipe is hot because the expansion pipe is full of old oil & crap?

I've never run a TZR 125 but on all the other two strokes I've had replacing the crank shaft oil seal is total strip down. I'm not sure if you can do it or not from the gearbox side or not on a TZR 125.

I'll be camped up in the paddock with the TZR racers at Brands this weekend so I'll get as much info as I can from them for you over the weekend. They race 250s but I'd imagine being parallel twins the crank ends will be similar to the 125.

I'll check there's also not something peculiar to TZRs that make them smoke while I'm at it.

It's deffintely oil smoke is it? (ie what it normally does but more of it.)

Incidently years & years & years ago when I was a teenager we ran my mates Fantic 50 with a blown crankshaft oil seal for ages. Every time it stopped smoking we just topped up the gearbox oil again. :grin2 Mind it did self destruct in the end.

Right ignore my last post, I've just rung my mate Graham file who is one of the best two stroke (The best in my opinion) tuners around.

He said the obvious to check the pump settings and make sure the cable isn't frayed and jamming it open.

If it's just suddenly started doing it then it's almost deffinitly the crank shaft gearbox oil seal.

He said you can do it from the geabox side if the engine hasn't been running like it for ages and damaged the crank bearings. (Two stroke oil doesn't mix well with gearbox oil). Remove the clutch etc then remove the plate over the oil seal and you should be able to carefully prise it out. Theres a bush that runs in the seal that also needs to come out.

Before you do any off that though he said to make sure the exhaust isn't just bunged up so it's getting hot and burning off the old oil inside it.

If you have a pipe that comes to bits check it isn't all chocked up.

Jeez I can't remember that far back:grin2 It was the moto X looking one. It had a red plastic tank and that's about as much as I remember now.
I was hurtling about on a rather grotty AP 50 at the time.

Ha Ha the old Suzuki AP50............I had the Fantic TI...:laugh2that smoked really well. Have you cleaned out the exhaust, when that gets bunged up it will smoke, but you will also a bit of power, well it did in them days anyway..................
