Getting your wheels chromed will cost an absolute fortune and I don't know of any places that do it (although of course there are places). However, I sent my zxr wheels away to be powder coated last year - Like this -

The chrome effect, is a powdercoat called 'chromax'. It looks the business, is easys to clean just using water and is as strong as any other powder coat finish. It can be faded into other colours, as you can see :) I love my wheels :D :D Shame the bikes a shed :D :D

The company is called....

I sent my wheels off to them for around £10-£15 as they are in Gt Yarmouth... can't remember how much it cost, but there's a price list on the site :)

Check the site out, there's loads of examples of their work.

firstly the powder coated wheels look the business and second polished rims are an absolute nightmare to keep clean and the salt in the winter just ruins them if you dont give them special care and attention

I can back up that a powder coated finish looks the nuts.

Does the powder coat age quickly deterioate or stay like new as long as you look after it , ie is it worth getting done ?

The Chromax powder coat is definately as hard wearing as any other colour powder coat. Although I had mine done less than a year ago and they still look gleaming - no chips or scratches, they company said as long as they were looked after, they'd last years. They painted the whole thing - even under where the tyre is fitted.

I did have the option to leave the rims paint free to prevent scratching when the tyres are being changed, but polished rims, as Ride or Die said, are a total nightmare to keep shiny as they dull over overnight and need regular polishing to keep the finish and there's also the risk, where you have a line of paint before the rim, of easier chipping. AND when it comes to getting the tyres changed - if you take them to a decent garage and insist that they take extra time and care when changing the tyres - you'll have no problems with them ruining the paint. Might cost a few quid more, but well worth it. I've had my tyres done and they new I would've screamed and sulked the place down if they'd scratched my rims... so they were extra careful :)

They are easy enough to look after - I was told just to wash my down with water and a soft cloth and brake dust just wipes off - not like before when I had to scrubb it with a wheel brush, which in turn dulled the paintwork.

I do however, use 'Carplan - Wheel Seal & Protect'. Bought it from Halfrauds. Basically, once the wheels are clean, you spray a fine layer on (taking care not to get any on the rubber!!), let it dry and then you can buff it up. It leaves a protective film over the paintwork which prevents any dirt or brake dust sticking. You can literally run your fingers over the wheels after a long ride and the dirt just falls off! :)

Any more questions? :D

:)

ignore the fact that i also painted the valve, as the valve will be changed with the tyre
