View Full Version : What shall I get...?
Hi guys (and gals).
As some of you may know, I've just sold my ZXR250 :( I'm now wondering what to get... and wanted some suggestions! I'm after something quicker than the 250 but not too much more on insurance. Something fairly comfortable for long journeys home, but fun at the weekend! Also something that will be ok in the winter... the roads to work are pretty much the worst roads I've ever seen! Sounds like this is going to be one mega bike that will do all this... or like I want two bikes really! Unfortunately not got the cash for that just yet! I was thinking about something like an SV650, but just thought that I'd consult the wise and all-knowing people of Essexbikers for suggestions...?
Honda Hornet 600.
Easy to ride, Fast, CBR600 Engine, Cheaper to insure than a 400, Fun, cheap. look good, comfortable, good to modify. Nuff said

Consider a bandit.
I did just spunk over £800 on insurance, but I do have a somewhat chequered history.
They'll do 130 no problem, keep up in an intermediate trackday group, cheap to buy, cheap to insure normally.

Hornets are better than Bandits and ZXR 400 are a little samll to be comfy on long journeys and wouldn't be as easy to manage in the winter. Need too many revs too.
The newer Hornet with the 17" front wheel would be a better bet. Better engine and build quality than the bandit.
Other option is a Fazer but have never really liked the look of them.

i agree on the 400s on long journeys, i am very small indeed and my CBR is not comfy for more than about 120-150 miles in a day.
my 748 is fine though, did 300 miles no probs in france, would have been 700 had i not had my little incident :grin2
if you do a lot of motorway etc. riding then i'd get something with a fairing but this is just my own personal opinion. i had occasion to ride my CB500 to and from Bexleyheath for a meeting (about 65 miles) and i had forgotten about wind blast!!!

KTM 450:grin2
I looked at the ktm's... not too good on the motorways though...
Not a fan of the Bandits. I think either the Hornet or SV are my best options so far. Although I am looking at XR650R's... they look pretty fun! Anyone know anything about them?

have you considered a Yamaha Fazer 600?, the older style is cheep to buy and they go on and on, iv'e still got mine on the drive and use to use it for commuting, never had a days problem with it and cheep to insure. 2000 onward they got even better with a new front cowl and extra styling and if I had a few bob spare I would buy one. As for the new style I dont like them much but may be worth a butchers, but by my recoking they tried to hard and spoilt a good all rounder.:reading
yeah, i did consider the fazer, but i think i prefer the sv... the fazer's are a great bike though! went all the way to wales and back on the back of one once!
looks like it's going to have to be this kind of category of bike doesn't it?
