Went in and out of JFK and flew through, no delays at all. Big suprise, Liza went last month and had huge delays but that was through Newark. They are still being very strict on hand luggage (no liquids allowed) and you have to remove you shoes when going through the X-ray, apart from that it is no different from normal.

Is it right Karl that you must leave you suitcases unlocked when traveling to America?

Dont padlock them or you are asking for a smashed up case the other end! Some airports state side offer a service where they will security check your bag then cover it in extra strong shrink wrap for a small fee, then your bag is secure. Basically if they think a bag a suspitious, and apparently padlocks are suspicious, then they will break the locks and inspect the contents, and then probably not put the bag back the way they found it :(

It does seem safer now though, and NY itself feels very safe, i even took a walk through some of the less popular neighbourhoods with no problems at all, was a bit dubious of the way the London police handled their SMGs when getting out of their van this morning though, I hope they werent loaded or more than one of them will be earning the nickname Hoppy! :grin2

you can get US customs approved padlocks which they can open without breaking the lock... otherwise expect your lock to be broken
