Hi guys , i have taken my bike to my Honda dealer to have new tyres fitted and i asked them about balancing the wheel after , they said with a smile you dont need to do it , its only academic , am i in danger of anything , as my wheel does have a metal thingy weight type thing in the centre on each wheel already which was done at the factory when new :shooter

quite right.....done at factory for a reason....would of thort as main dealer, would of obliged....either that or just as lazy as must last visit EVER to National tyres for help.
the dealer is being lazy....
i know someone that never gets his wheels balanced and has never had a problem
i know others that have experienced strange vibes, which after balancing went away

i think the point is you will worry if you dont get them done, and therefore it might affect your riding due to psychological influences

what!! I'd always....ALWAYS get mine ballanced with new tyres. It's the tyre that's not ballanced not the wheels. If it's not ballanced properly it can cause issuse with front end handling and steering more than anything.
I'd suggest that you ask him , with a smile, to ballance them as all the shops i've ever been to have always quoted me tyres including ballancing...

i have also been told it doesnt need to be done on the front.. or is it the rear??? cant remember.
but the guy i take it to, "loosewheels" in colchester always balance both wheels. makes me feel much more happier
does a right proper job of it too... and i get a cup of tea:grin2

Modern tyres are pre-balanced so that if they are fitted correctly, with the indicator aiming at the valve then no further balancing should be needed, that is theory at least. I always have mine balanced.

Yup, as mentioned already tyres these days "shouldnt" need balancing as long as the balancing mark on the tyre is lined up with where the valve goes on the wheel, however only once have i had tyres fitted and the wheels have not been balanced, even at the track the tyre fitters balance the wheels and you would be surprised at what differences balancing a wheel can make.
On my old ZZR600 i was getting all sorts of vibration on the bike, lots of problems with the handling etc and when the wheels were taken to a tyre fitter they both needed at least 10 grammes of weight added to the wheels, it pretty much sorted it out.
I am not sure what the issue is with the dealer here but for a mechanic to tell you that they dont need balancing anymore is more than a bit strange considering the majority of tyre fitters will and do balance wheels as part of the tyre fitting service, if they didnt need to then they wouldnt do it as it would be one less thing to worry about.
My bike certainly came fitted with weights on the wheels and when i had the dealer change the tyres it had different weights fitted to match the tyres too.

I also use Loose Wheels of Colchester and they balance them routinely and as been stated........you get a cup of tea thrown in!
When ever I have had tyres fitted I have always asked them to balance them, I would not run with tryes that were not balanced.

ive heard balancing is more important on cars, but if its drasticly out on a bike you will notice a difference in handeling, benfleet motorcycles do it for free for me, and there dirt cheap anyways £15 for a fitted balanced tyre and i got the tyre for £80 (bt014)

The theory is if the balancing dot's lined up the tyre shouldn't need balancing these days.
However, after having tyres fitted every race weekend from personnal experience there can be a big difference from tyre to tyre even in the same make.
Dunlops in particular are quite often a long way out.
Wether you notice or not is debatable I suppose but I rode on a front that had to have 15g put on it to get it in balance when I had it checked and I deffinitely noticed enough to get it checked in the first place.
