View Full Version : spark pulgs
ok im in need of some advice and rather than speak to a shop who will only see £££ and not give me the advice i need i thought id ask you guys.
ok its the time of year when the spark plugs need changing.
So my question is are the high performance ( Iridium ) any better than normal ones?
Apart from being twice as expensive, I’ve read what the makers say is it to be believed? Is anybody using them etc???
Thanks
Ross

Hi Ross i use the iridium type in my TL1000S and have noticed a difference ,the pick up feels crisper and smoother , the main reason for this is the surface area of the tip is smaller and therefore is less likely to foul creating resistance for the spark hope this helps you mate ....Mick
Thanks dude,
yes it does help me but not the wallet lol

If the bike is running okay then why change the plugs? you only need to change plugs if they actually need it, also depending on how long the plugs have been in there just take care that you dont snap them off getting them out, you will be surpised at how tight they get with oxidisation of the alloys on the cylinder head ;)
We were going to put Iridium plugs in Jetski's track bike, they are still sat in the shed, the first comment was why are you changing them? and the second was iridium wont make the bike run faster ;)
Lastly, Iridium plugs tend to make more of a difference on higher compression bikes too, a better bet is to find the heat ratings for the plugs that fit that bike and fit a slightly colder plug, given that its a 97 bike and a carb version SRAD, the standard plugs are more than good enough ;)
Taken from another site
BSD at Peterborough told me to stay away from Iridium plugs on the SRAD as they can apparently cause the coils to break down !!!
