Oh how good it is to be back on a bike!!!
If you didn't know i had my R6 stolen up in Coventry from outside my flat just over 3 months ago. It was recovered a month later but as i was off back packing in China i was unable to pick it up.
Anyways i went back up to Coventry 2 weeks ago and while i was up there i started work on her.
The best thing - she started up!!! Although she did look a mess (didn't help that i had put it into a back of a people carrier a couple of months beforehand)
She wasnt as bad as i had been told....
Ignition Barrell had been drilled out, aswell as the petrol cap. lots of scratches, dents, tax disc missing, alarm and imobilser stolen, solo seat unit ripped out, forks slightly out of line.
Then the damage i had put on it from the people carrier...
snapped fairing mount, snapped front brake lever (still works fine tho) and the rest was cosmetic.
Unfortunatly i didnt take any pictures of the work i did on her :( wish i had now.
Anyways i set out on her at my mates house in Cov, new petrol cap went straight on, restrictors came out, straightend up the forks and the new ignition barrell went on (hah that was fun, took a nice angle grinder to the old one to get it out of the top yolk) New 7.5 fuse went in as one blew.
Then it was time to trailer her home, tried to get her on the trailer then disaster, then ramp came away, the bike fell, front wheel on trailer and rear wheel off, resting on the downpipes and plastics :( luckly my mate ran across and grabbed a random guy off the road and as he held it me and my mate lifted the bike up so that the rear wheel then fitted into place on the trailer.
Strapped her down and set off back to Essex. Was trailering her on the back of a 1991 Ford Fiesta 999cc Bonus, and it wasnt that bad at all, didnt feel the bike and it didint make much difference to the speed, only a little on acceleration.
Got back home and wheeled her off into the garage.
Next day, i went down to 'Thurston engineering' - HIGHLY reccomend them. I was told by someone else that it couldnt be welded and a Yamamha dealership wanted £202 so took it down to Thurston in High Ongar.
A few hours later got a phone call saying it had been done and only cost £25.
Then back home, to set out fitting it, then lights back on, front wireing loom back in place, speedo, airintake tubes, nose cone fairing, mirrors and screen.
FINALLY!!! at midnight she looked like a bike again. So i took her for a little blast. Just down to town to get some petrol and some dinner - fish and chips.
Picked up my fish and chips and then walked back to the bike. Started her up and made 4 people jump and everyone turn around. She sounded soooooo nice, and just made me came.
Then today, i gave her a good rub down, clean, new tax disc holder on, yellow rim tape on the wheels, some white tyre pen on (what can i say im a tart!!)
Tomorrow i'll be sticking some R&G fairing and exhaust crash bungs on, pick up some new T-cut (the one i have isnt dark enough) so that'll hopefully make my damage a little less noticable.
Then she just needs new Chain & sprockets and shes done, oh and a black tinted screen :grin2
But it feels good to be back on a bike, missed the summer once again :( but i had forgotten just how good it is, how fast it pulls away and even in 3rd and 4th gear how the acceleration kicks in.
As soon as the chain and sprockets are on, i'll definatly be back at the pub and be out on her all the time!!!
