hi i have a mate he used to ride a RS50 in his younger days (no jon isnt a chav!!! LOL). his dad rides a harley and now he wants to get a bike after coming out with me on the GSXR and with gaz.

He has been given a real old VF400 that doesnt run and hasnt been run for around 10 years, its missing bolts, needs a new chain and front and rear sprocket amoungst carb work, gaskets, fuels tank and other things. i personally think as it was free he should get rid of it and get either a 400 like a VFR or CBR, or get himself a bandit 6 or something similar. he thinks however that the bandit will be too much power for him, but i think he is being a big girl, and hes moaning about restrictions!!! LOL. what do you guys think??

sound like he would be better of buying one on the road.
6 bandits are slow even compared to most 400 i think, well the 400s are faster round the lanes anyway.

You can't go wrong with a 400 - zxr cbr etc etc as a first bike. Not too much to handle as you've got to wring its neck to get mad with it... but a lot of fun when you get used to it :)

On the restriction side of things... its always safer to stay on the right side of the law... and you can get restriction kits for most bikes :)

In fact, he could even go for an RS125 for a mini taste of a sports bike... mine would do 105mph unrestricted and of course they are learner legal :D

Hi Mate

I agree with jetski completeley, the 400's will be a great bike to get his confidence on.
The old Vf he has been given could possibly be broken and the money from the parts go towards his new bike. It could cost a fortune to get going and still have a dodgy crank as many of the vf's suffered.

Mate, who is this dude?! You know how i feel about restrictions! lol and we all know if you have the right frame of mind you can pretty much jump onto anybike!however i think 400's are very good learning toold, because you cant really point and squirt! (im not talking about willys here!) because there not usually all that great mid range, you try to keep your speed higher in the corners and it makes you a fast more confident rider! things like the arse bandit fazer and divvy are great liearner bikes to! a little more to play with in the middle and usually less at the top! and all in the shape of a bigger bike! Again....who is this bloke!? lol a bloody chav i bet! hahhaha
