I just wrote a really long, detailed post, but the stupid thing logged out and lost it before I could post it - how good is that then?

Litre bikes, basically, they're the greatest thing in the world and anyone who says they're too fast for the road, should shut up and actually ride one instead of just reading stuff on the internet.

I just took an R1 out for a scratch, and went round corners and used the brakes and put it on the stop in every single gear down a dual carrige way, and I can now say without doubt, they're great.

They're not too fast, they're not un-rideable, they're not missiles, they're ****ing awesome, and if you think they're too fast or you are the kind of arsehole that just takes the first bit of advice they're given as gosbel, then go out and ****ing ride one before you say they're too fast.

A throttle aint an on/off switch. 1000cc Inline 4's are what it's all about.

Whether you're a 15stone bloke that's 18 foot tall and built like a brick ****-house or if you're Capriossi size, they're ****ing brilliant!

And before anyone says it, im not writting this to cause arguments, or asking advice, or even expecting any replies, because i've heard it all before... just wanted to say, TRY IT before you write it off.

totally lost me with that one :D

i dont think anyone has ever questioned the power of one, i think most just realise that on the road most of the power is useless unless you ride like a nutcase that is which we are all prone to doing from time to time, the simple fact is that whilst it might be enjoyable, there just arent that many roads where you can use the full power of any sports bike these days ;)

I'm sorry but I can't quite work out why you have posted this. This is just an opinion (yours) but doesn't take anything like rider skill or experience into consideration. :(

This can't be the same Sam that told us that riding on the road was just too dangerous, surely?

WTF have you been sniffing mate?

I think if anyone advised him not to get a thou it was based on his age (insurance cost) and lack of road experience, no-one wants to see anyone on here get hurt. If Sam takes a deep breathe, re-reads his post, he may understand what I mean. I know if I had a bike like that at his age, I would probably not be here to tell the tale, and I reckon Sam has the speed bug worse than me! By all means Sam go out and get a busa turbo, but please ride safe.

I'm sorry but there is no way anyone can justify posting rubbish like this on a general forum. I'm quite sure there are lots of guest visitors to these pages who beleive what they read and this does nothing (in my opinion) to offer anything practical or safe.

i for one was only trying to have a giggle with one and all , but i do tend to agree the majority of riders on the roads today cant manage the sheer acceleration of a 1 litre bike , in my opinion for what its worth is that their brains cant function fast enough for the roads as most of you will prob agree riding a bike of any size is an art form and when done correctly is very satisfying to those on the bike aswell as those riding with you .................i will prob get all kinds of comments now still i have broad shoulders lol ....take care all and ride safe ..........:grin2 :grin2 :laughboun :laughboun

After reading every post in this thread there are only two people who need to grow up........you being one of them !!!

Jeuv that post was pointless....go through the forum...no one has said DONT get a thou !!! All that has been given are peoples opinions and if all you was doing is trying to express your enjoyment on a test ride then I for one think you should probably resit your english exam !!

Now.if we take you both to the side and talk about why you have the hump.......I think the answer would probably be that you dont like the fact that people are expressing sensible adult opinions and not plastering the forums with insults or calling everyone that has an opinion a **** !

Sorry if its gone all grown up kids.........but life goes on.........and dont forget............

Ahh delightful to see I havent missed much......oddly enough I have just been reviewing a fatal accident were the rider was on a Gixxer 1000 K4....lets just say it spat him off into a crash barrier and ran back over him...bike unscathed...rider dead.

His accident was caused by his own error ... the bike travelling too fast and he lost it through misjudgement off clutch and acceleration and he had 8 years riding experience 4 of which on big bikes....

It could HAPPEN TO ANY OF US:( ...regardless of experience/bike....be safe out there...:grin2 :grin2 :grin2

I think thats missing the point though Mickey, the point is they arent Missiles, arent out of place on the road and even people with restricted licences should be let loose to run around on them (lets face it insurance isnt a question seeing as on a restricted licence you arent insured for them (unless restricted of course ;) ).

No i stand corrected, if there has ever been an argument and god knows there have been a few on here (but they do tend to be for the most part between people of the over 30 category and people of the under 20 category), for the advantages and disadvantages of different types of bikes, its undeniable that the younger category of rider is always going to feel that 1000cc is perfectly fine for anyone, lets face it most youngsters these days on a moped immediately ask how to get more power out of it :D

They are perfectly fine on the road if you have the sense to use it would have been a better way of describing it, and more importantly if you have the sense to keep it under control,

either way, you show me anyone on here that can get a 1000cc bike to show its full potential on any of the roads most of us normally ride and i will quite happily concede that they can do a lot more than the average 2003+ 600cc bike, but i am betting plenty on here could get a 600 to work better for them ;)

Where am i going with this? well its more a case of contentment really, no science, no harping on about power to weight ratio, no whining about experiences on bikes etc, just a plain old fashioned common sense argument that in the UK you wont do much more on the road with a 1000 than you would with a 600 and if you do try then the only thing you tend to look at is a bit more of the sky over the top of the screen instead of tarmac.

Now where is the argument in that? quite a few of us have been riding 1000cc bikes for a while now, most of us realise that whilst its a lot of horsepower its also a lot of responsibility and hard work trying to keep the power safe, but at the same time most of us dont get a cock stand over them either, a bike is a bike, a badly ridden bike is nothing but an accident waiting to happen ;)

This is probably why in the US most young riders are called "Squids"

Stupidly quick imminently dead ;)

Stupidly quick imminently dead ;)

stupidly quick UNDERDRESSED imminently dead

Squid
An extremely rare animal with a short lifespan.
Usually a new sport bike enthusiast with the reasoning of a lunatic, whom you might see thrashing on an R1 after two years road riding experience (most of which is on a restricted license) and maybe a trackday here or there in the novice group (clearly once they have a R1 they can move into the intermediate/fast group as the R1 will make up for any lack of skill/experience).
On the street they can be found wearing sandals, shorts, t-shirt and helmet.
Normally the squid has crashed/written off bike(s) in the 250,400,600 class (delete as approriate), not his fault of course. (someone pulled out on him, diesel on the road etc, although with more experience he may of had better road position and avoided the accident with improved observation, of course a squid is blind to this)
SQUIDS think IAM training is for slow older rdiers or those returning to biking after 20 years. Saddly a squids life span isn't long enough for him to realise the error of his ways.
When found lying motionless on the pavement, this creature transforms itself into a stream of blood, exposed flesh, and broken limbs.
His corpse is a helmet with stringy fleshy bit dangling from the bottom. (which oddly enough looks like the squid found inthe sea)

SQID, from the same gene pool as the SQUID but harder to spot on the open road. Normally has a longer life span than a squid. But writes off more bikes before running out of talent on his favorite route and losing his life.
