Just out of curiosity who here is a member of IAM and goes along to the meetings?

I know Kasandrich is but was just wondering if anyone else did.

The idea of joining has been on my mind for awhile now, but due to things getting in the way like uni, work, bike being stolen, crashing and what not I haven’t been able to go.

What exactly happens at these meets and how does the training work? (Think its about time someone rips my riding apart and gets me back on the straight and narrow)

........ermmm not any more I ain't!

I fully support everything they do, my reasons for dumping it were entirely due to personal circumstances.

The main one being that the main reason for passing there test is that you get 10% discount on insurance, but the test costs £50 then anual membership is £20 or £30 and my insurance is £300, so no great saving for me. and I felt I had achieved as much as I could without over coming some major obstacles.

As for the format, they "observe" your riding and they discuss how it could be better, smoother, safer and why. Then leave you to make changes/ adjustments to your riding, then observe you again.

They are carefull not to instruct you, as if they tell you what to do and you have an accident you could possibly try to claim against them.

They also have roadcraft presentations on any and all aspects of road/bike safety, from bike maintenance, to high vis clothing, to weather, fatigue, etc, etc.
