I'm still here.

I find I have less pressures on my weekend time in winter, still happy to ride.

Still alive here too and ridin all year round. And i do like a ride out in the freezin cold sometimes..:eyewobble.
Went out on my own once last year and my hands were so numb i could'nt get any money out my pocket at Maccy D's on the A12. So one of the cleaners kept bringin me over free coffee's....lol.
This year got meself a pair of pathan gloves for me birthday, so no more numb hands, (hopefully), well, so far so good.
As busy as i am, i'm determined to meet at least one person off here sometime....

I had the numb hands problem when riding a bike back from Mayland in January this year (in the snow). Got to Galleywood and couldn't move them - they were frozen in a throttle-gripping position.
Went to TKMaxx and got myself some skiing gloves. While they won't give the protection of my proper bike gloves, they do keep my hands warm enough to retain all movement in my hands. All for £8.

Fertile!!!

i rode my new bike home in the pouring rain last night and it was great. filtered from the billericay junction on the A12 all the way to Boreham. Brilliant  but i didnt care, the bike is fantastic and i love every single mile that ticks by on it.....

would have been better if my jacket had done a bit better at keeping the rain out rather than in, but there we are. i found it a lot easier to manage in the wet than i had been led to believe! even on new tyres :grin2

i dont follow that at all? :D

its no more difficult to manage than any other bike in the wet if you arent particularly handy with the throttle ;)

I think the whole point about advising you that they can be a handful in the wet is that because the throttle is a lot more sensitive compared to a 400 or even a V twin when you roll on the power, if you havent experienced a full on runaway tyre in the dry then you havent experienced one in the wet yet then :)

The whole point of that advice wasnt to try to deter you from buying the bike (which lets face it you truly believed) it was to make you aware that 175bhp spins up a lot quicker in the wet than a 400cc does (i cant remember ever having had a wheelspin on a 400 for that matter), nothing more ;)

But then again everyone has different levels of throttle control and probably pile the revs on at different speeds too :)

Sounds like its coming together nicely though :)

who?

hang on a minute i am getting the jist of things now, everyone has to be careful about what we say around here in case people get their feelings hurt?

she left a tongue in cheek comment which having read it again was likely meant innocently enough to dispell anyone's idea's that a 1000cc bike can be a handful in the wet? am i wrong?

so i post in disagreement, bearing in mind its my opinion here and its a free for all (and lets get the facts right, there was only a few of us that seem to think that they are a handful in the wet so its quite obvious who its aimed at).

To start with the advice is good, its not meant as a slight in anyway, only someone who is paranoid about it could possibly think that ;)

No-one is jumping on the case here, i couldnt give a monkeys chuff about the bike or the rider, all's i was saying was that dont fall for the illiusion that because you have had a good ride on it in the wet it is always going to be like that, and to take care that it doesnt catch you out?

It seems to me that all this amounts to someone feeling persecuted and doing a bit of whinging behind the scenes about it all? or else my comment wouldnt have caused such a fuss (hers certainly didnt with me).

Honestly, isnt the internet a wonderful place :D

i am off to find some milk to cry into now seeing as its soooo serious on here today ::D

Saucer of milk to table 4 please :D

so she had a good ride, im sure she knows that if she gave it a handful wet or dry it would spin up. its not a dig mick, im just pointing out something that ive noticed and normally i keep my mouth shut and dont say anything. maybe i should keep it that way.....u can go pick ur toys up now!!:grin3

The Guvnor
24-10-2006, 12:10 PM
This is exactly what I meant !
There used to be a time when comments were made and people would take them as they were meant, when opinions were made and people would add there own slant and when people gave advice after someone asked for it and the advice would either be acted on or just ignored !

All that happens now is if something is said people get the hump and it turns into a bloody row !

Pls people lets just all be friendly again.:skip

24-10-2006, 12:13 PM
Nooooo i think you are both very much mistaken? do you see me crying about it?

I didnt take the comment out of context, and i certainly dont feel like i was having a dig, trust me if i was i would have made it a lot clearer :D

Who is being unfriendly????

If it gets turned into a row then it wont be by my hand, i think some need to realise that there isnt some rule in life that says you have to say what others like to hear all the time, i speak as i find, if people cant understand then dont blame it on my northern accent, blame it on the lack of comprehension ;) :D

was there first..:grin2

Anyway, back to the original thread.."whats happenin". An innocent thread about winter ride outs and here you all are gettin paranoid and stuff.
I've watched this thread since it started and i have to say, I've kept my mouth shut here.
It seems Harrie has bought herself a new bike and some wanna jump on here and give her all the...."been there, done it advise"
I'm sure, as much as everyone's advise is useful, just let the woman ride her bike and get on with life. She'll learn about her bike just like we all did. We all wanna give a bit advise to someone, but sometimes its better just to keep our mouths shut and let people get on with it. If someone wants a bit of help or advise, they'll ask for it..
If this does'nt make any sense, i aplologise...lol..

Now can we all take a chill pill??...

I don't think any of the advice on here is any different than it would be for anyone else who had bought a new bike? I don't think its just because it's Harrie, why would it be? she's no different from anyone else. The only reason people think that this thread is having a dig at her, is because of the 'can't say anything right' comment she made. And that, is from someone that has always had to justify her choices to others just because she is smaller than the average rider, and therefore she might assume that anyone giving advice or making a comment is therefore asking her to justify her choice, as she's had to do it so much in the past. You therefore wouldn't blame her for thinking that would you! :)

Not the case here though. Its just advice for her as for anyone else.

I'm looking at getting a new bike next year... I hope to get this kind of advice and certainly wouldn't take offence to it :) as I'm sure Harrie 'didn't mean' to take this thread the wrong way. :)

If you don't all shut up i'm going to dish out some nappies slaps, ie: I'll grab you by the arm swing you round and spank your arse like a mum who's fed up with being asked "can i have some sweets" :grin2

Incidentally I felt my back wheel coast/ spin a small amount this morning on a really tame bend, for those of you that know it was as you go past the tesco's as you come into southend, I was doing about the legal limit and not accelerating, If it can be done on my hair-dryer it wont take much for you big banana's to spin, especially at 06:30 this morning, anything over 4mph and you were aquaplaning.

Harrie, I know your fed up with people giving you advice but it's not because they think your a limpet, they care about you awwwwwwwww :)
