Hi all,
On the side of my bike I have these mesh cover thingys. For some reason the mesh on the one on the right keeps cracking up and falling out I cant seem to work out why. I've gone through 3 sheets of mesh in 2 months, it's driving me crazy:laugh2 The left side is fine, and the mesh on the rads, thats all ok. The only thing I can think of is because the bike vibrates so much, because there's nothing touching it anywhere. Anyone have any ideas? or think of a way I can stop it happening.
Cheers:grin2

Weird one that, its the first time i have seen or heard of that happening to be honest, can't really think of what to suggest either to be honest geezer apart from removing the existing mesh and putting some other stronger stuff in its place.

But if it was down to vibration then i would have thought that the other side would have been just as susceptible to it as that side, also with the heat it shouldnt be exactly the same (although the Tuono gets nowhere near as hot as the Mille due to it not having full fairings and i never had any problems with either on my early one).

Might be an idea once you have replaced the mesh to put some thin rubber washers behind the bolts that locate the panel to the frame, at least then you can minimise the vibration being transferred to the panel :)

Cheers mick, thats an idea, i'll try that. Also I was thinking maybe running a strip of thin foame on the inside of the cut out, so the mesh isn't acually touching the plastic. Maybe I could use a thin double sided tape, the spongy one and only peeling one side.
Everyone I've spoke to about it have said the same thing, that they have never heard of it happening.
Cheers again mate:clap :clap

Are you sure you are not pushing it in wiith the inside of your thigh / knee, maybe a crease in your leathers at the knee pushing on it when you are riding or something?

I thought that at first, but my knee doesn't touch it

The foam sounds a good idea. You could even try a good mastic. Run a strip along it first then gently mount the grills onto the mastic. If you get the stuff that sets like rubber, it should get into all, the nooks and crannies and then set giving a good seat/joint and hopefully good vibration proofing.

We used to fill our handlebars up with mastic to stop vibration when I raced MX.

(come to think of it, I've done it on a few road bikes aswell.)
