I am thinking of fitting a after market tail tidy with a small number plate. The standard plates feel like a sail on the backend of the bike. Any suggestions as to smallest legal number plate size l am allowed to fit? Also can anyone suggest a good place to go have the number plate done?

Just to add to that, the only legal plate is the standard one.... anythin smaller is technically illegal...
However, the smaller you go, the less the ol bill will like it...., sayin that, i've never had a problem..

I was under the impression that the law now related to the size of font and spacing as opposed to the physical size of the plate?

Haven't read it fully, so may be wrong...

Your right V8... it is the size, font type and spaces that matters, which means the plate itself can be any size ya like i guess... not that you can chop much off a standard plate mind...

Ive got the same size as crescent...........never had any probs ! If they wanna nick me they will find something so hey.........saves standing at the side of the road while they scrutinise my pride and joy.......make it easier for them !:grin2
correct me if im wrong but if you have a smaller plate, let them nick you for it, the fine for a small plate is lower than if they find out youve had your engine bored out or derestricted?? Then again they cant do that at the roadside i suppose...:grin1

The fine for illegal number plate is £1000 are you sure it is less than the fine for bored or derestricted engine?

at the end of the day unless your taking the **** totally, if you do get pulled the police will ask you to put your legal plate back on when you get home and give you a warning.

And as far as im aware boring out your engine isnt illegal as long as its documented on the V5 and the insurers know....streetfighter addicts do it all the time!!!!
