whats the deal on motorcycle insurance & race exhausts?
in other words, if you were to have a race silencer fitted with "not for road use" stamped on it and you were to have a spill where would you stand with your insurance? or is it just the MOT that you would not pass.
I know theres 1000's of us out there with them fitted & loads with full race systems but wondered what the deal is with the insurance & using them on the road.

Same as the other thread geezer, whether or not your insurance company see it as a valid excuse to turn you over on your policy is entirely down to them, however riding a bike with a non road legal exhaust doesnt invalidate an MOT (other wise you wouldnt get a fine for it, you would be getting pulled for riding without an MOT) it only stops you getting one is its stamped up "Not for road use" or something similar.
In most cases as with any other mods to your bike, the insurance would just refuse to cough up for a non standard exhaust if it wasnt declared to them,
again down to your insurer however it wouldnt actually invalidate your MOT strictly speaking and it certainly wouldnt invalidate your policy under normal circumstances.
bear in mind its the insurer thats covering you, best to read the small print and not give them the opportunity to test you on it ;)

Also, you will find that Insurance companies will not refuse to cough up in the event of damage. It is down to their T & C which usually say that they would only replace none standard parts damaged with standard parts or something to that effect.
Therefore, it is likely that you are not completely exposed, you are covered for standard parts only. But double check the T & C for the exact score.:laugh2

My can is declared on my insurance, they don't mention race or road legal, but you can declare a can with up to 5% power increase or a can with up to 10% power increase.
