Im confused!

I have spoke to five different bike companies specialising in tuning.....
3 have said a Power Commander is pointless as it is a closed loop system, which was my understanding.

The other 2, including Dynospeed, have said it is rubbish and to remap a gixer 6 WITHOUT a PC is pointless !!

So who do you believe ?

Thought I would turn to the font of all knowledge and get clarification.

So latey.....your mission should you choose to accept.........:grin2

ffs, is this taking "taxpayers getting their monies worth to a new level" ?? :D :D :D

Short and sweet, a power commander increase the tuning potential, closed loop fuel injection isnt designed to stand in the way of tuning its supposed to increase the fueling efficiency.

A power commander will allow greater adjustability on the throttle, the throttle position sensor which reads down as low as 5% increases i think, instead of the normal 10% ones, which means a smoother throttle.

Recent power commanders also allow ignition timing adjustments too at different throttle positions too, again it increases the fuelling and efficiency further for power.

If a power commander was a waste of time on a GSXR600 and closed loop fuel injection system, Dynojet would be panicking by now ;)

Just to add to this (seeing as i am at work right now :D )

Closed loop (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Closed_loop) EFI systems improved the air/fuel ratio control with an Exhaust Gas Oxygen Sensor (EGO sensor). The EGO sensor is mounted in the exhaust system upstream of the catalyst. It detects excess oxygen in the exhaust stream. Oxygen, or the lack of it, indicates whether the air/fuel is lean or rich of the stoichiometric ratio. The EGO sensor is also known as a Lambda-Sond sensor or O2 sensor.

This was already brought up by Two in quite some detail on the K&N thread and does explain it quite well, a closed loop system is closed because it uses the Lambda sensor reading from the exhaust to adjust the fueling and CO levels, a Power Commander overrides the ECU to some extent and in some cases even tricks the ECU into thinking its getting the relevant reading from the sensors, when in actual fact its supplying the figures itself from the mapping input by the dyno operator.

So again if a Power Commander was no use whatsoever on a closed loop fuel injection system, then most people would be ringing Dynojet and giving them hell for designing something that had no effect whatsoever ;)

Just to add to this Kev, I rode a gixxer 6 last year which had a PCIII and was all mapped up. I have also rode a bog standard 6 and the difference was more than noticable.

I wouldn't like to say it had stacks more power, but it had certainly smoothed the throttle right out and cleaned it up bottom and mid range.
From what I remember, my mate paided about £450 for the unit and to have it mapped etc, but he lives up in Yorkshire.
In my mind, now I have rode the new gixxer in all 3 sizers and also the 6 and thou' with power commanders, I would say the 600 with PCIII is almost on par with a standard 750 for response, if only loosing out on a few horses.

(Still not as loverly as my R1's though) :grin1
