(just havent showed it to my dad yet:grin2 )Back in my youth I hid a tattoo from my parents (on top of my arm) for a few months, then decided to tell them. The trick I used was to tell them first I had a tattoo, then, when they asked to see it, I started to undo my trousers and pull down my pants. Their mouths dropped open in horror. When I stopped and lifted my shirt sleeve they were so relieved I got no further grief on the subject.

i'd heard E45 or nothing at all. that's what i used on mine but i tried to leave them alone!

i didnt tell my parents about mine until i was in hospital after my climbing accident (some 2 years later when i was 19) - they were so relieved i still had a leg they didnt care about my tattoos! i only had to tell them because it was going to be a bit obvious in a nice hospital gown since they're on my back!

my dad loves them, my mum doesnt really mind one way or the other.

:grin2 cool ....
i showed my dad and he didnt look to bothered... i think hes jelous :grin2 ... the bloke that did the tattoo told me to use petrolium jelly cus it just keeps it protected and moist so it doesnt itch when it goes dry, but i wasnt sure about that so i thought id ask peoples opinions on what they used :)

when you put it on did you leave some onit or just rub a little bit into it..... 'cus ive been leaving it on and its been leaving it onand its taking the colour out abit.... isit better to leave it to dry up and let the scabs go on their own or not???

As you Tattoo is black it should scab quite a bit, DONT pick it at all, the color will fade, under the scab. i put Savlon on it and GENTLY rubbed it in, once a day.

just be careful not to catch it on anything, clothing etc..

Also how come you stopped going all the way round ??

yea i know not to pick the scab and not too knock it but i didnt know what to put on and why to put it on either, one of my mtaes didnt put anything on his and his is stil scabbed like 4weeks later!!... what does the savlon do? and how long should it take before the scabs go and its normal?

erm this was one of his own designs he drew himself and it didnt go all the way around it only went as far as mine goes, its where the pattern ends 'cus its not the same all the way round

Not sure what it is that Savlon does better than most other things. I would've thought theoretically the antiseptic is irrelevant as it should be a clean, uncontaminated 'wound' (for want of a better word) but I used it on my fairly big cover up & it healed a treat. Not too much scabbing, not too itchy & no cracking & was totally healed in bout 10 days :grin2

The Savlon is to put a bit of moisture into the tattoo, i think ? Also its antisceptic so it helps with the healing process.

It should take a week or two to heal,

best of luck !!

Fairly big, it goes most of the way across my back & from top to bottom of my shoulder blades. I think he had to go over some parts a couple of times (sure felt like it  ) as it was a cover up of some pretty crappy old tattoos that had quite a lot of black lines & colour in them which may be why it took longer than some peoples.

probably my mate was told to use piles cream

NOOOOOO!!! dont use petrolium jelly...it'll strip the colour out especially on something so new......

I got 20+ tattoos and i used savlon on all of them....its the best stuff ever.....if not then use haemoroid cream.

leave it a couple of days then use the savlon at least twice a day and after a week ish the pickable scab will have dissapeared....it'll look a bit shiny for another week after that till the underlying scar tissue dissapears, then youre all set for another one!

use savlon from the following day until it heals, i've got a koi sleeve on one arm & a dragon sleeve on the other & i swear buy it, if you keep it moisturised the scabs come off better. use as much as you like, but as the captain said, dont use vaseline it ruins it & stops the air from getting to it & will take longer to heal

lol i duno ive probly wrecked this one i dont leave it alone lol keep messing...

when i get into shape lol 'cus ive been on crutches for 3 months then i didnt have some great news at the hospital this morning so im going to get my leg all sorted first... then i might go for a tribal somewhere... or maybe something that would mean something to me... not quite sure yet:)
still only a youngster so have a while to decide

the captain
27-02-2007, 08:43 PM
all i can say is.....think about the long term...for example, think of an entire sleve or something, then break it down into pieces, that way you can build up as much as you want and stop when you think youve done enough....theres nothing worse than getting loads of little bits done, then trying to fill gaps with anything you can to bring it all together.

i had no intention of getting a sleeve, but i got a bit here and there and ended up with my entire arm, chest and shoulder covered.....i love it, but i couldve thought it out a bit better!!!

hope that makes sense

richy rich
27-02-2007, 08:47 PM
yep made sense... i am going to wait a while and think it through properly before i get another done... just hope this turns out ok

the captain
27-02-2007, 08:50 PM
you'll be right!!

just keep on it witht he savlon and no picking!!!

I had to keep an eye on bex all the time when she had hers...shes a nightmare for picking a good scab.......the way i do it if you absolutely cant resist is to gently rub your hand over it, and any bits that lift easily are ready to come off.......kinda like sunburn skin!!....mine are all fine, no blotches or anything, im a bit of a picker too you see!!

anything deeper, leave it alone!!!!!!

STEALTH52
27-02-2007, 08:51 PM
i think most tattoos are ok if they are what you want, but dont get a tribal, it's my opinion but it's going to look awful when your older, i think tribals are a young persons tattoo, & everyone has tribal! be different

richy rich
27-02-2007, 08:52 PM
so the scabs will come up on their own??????

nahhh i just thought to myself that everyone has tribals...

the captain
27-02-2007, 08:55 PM
yeah, you'll get bits that start lifting really easily......just like sunburn skin......its wicked....give it a little while and you'll see.......although if you really go to town with the savlon it wont dry out enough to scab right up, which isnt a bad thing!

And quickshift is right....avoid tribal unless it something youre dead set on....sooooooo many people have it and 99% of it looks ****e!!!!!!

exactly...my sleeve is all celtic coz of my families scottish roots

(thank god my great grandmother re-married coz my surname would still be Angus.....god knows what first name i'd have!!!)

I got my Straightedege one on my calf coz ....well, im starightedge.

The horror character one on my other arm is by Rob Zombie...(he's a singer for those that dont know...he also wrote and directed House of a 1000 corpses etc) its very comic book/graphic style coz i studied all that at college so thats relevant

Saying that, all of em mean something....its kinda like a story in pictures!
