Worst thing about it is it was nicked from the same place that is covered with CCTV that the Police couldn't be ar$ed to look at!

Be afraid, be very afraid. It was Bedford Row, to be precise. Done in broad daylight between 4-5pm.

Err, it was taxed wasnt it? Mine got impounded last week for no tax disc!!! If I hadnt seen them doing it, I would have assumed the bike was stolen.

Yeah just put a year on it along with MOT and new tyres! I've checked the pounds.

Sorry to hear u had ur bike nicked that, that happened to me once and thats not a nice feeling. Police take ages to do any thing if at all i had my car stolen before and the guy was driving it around for three weeks before they caught him, then they charged me £150 to get it back!

Tubbsy8
05-03-2007, 02:19 PM
I know the first time they claimed to not have the resources to do anything! Rubbish!

Becky B

80% of bikes when stolen aren't ridden away but put in back of a van and never seen again

Tubbsy8

The copper told me what they do. I think I am going to wire it up with the alarm so it shocks the bar stewards!

I know its a bit late but i usually buy my locks from a lock smith top quality one they do and my chain from a chanderler(boat shop) chains they use are good

DoodleBug

When my bike got taken last week, they simply lifted it into the van, locks and all. Occording to the little sh*, err I mean ever so helpful operative, if it had been chained up, they would have just cut the chain and not been liable for damage. If someone wants your bike enough, they will bloody well take it unfortunately, all you can hope to do is make it too awkward for the opportunistic thief.

I think in your case Karl, with the bike being parked on a public highway without being taxed they can remove it legally by cutting the chain anyway :)

But going back to the bike security, if its a chain it can be cut, if they want it bad enough then they will have tools fit for the job, there isnt much out there that will withstand a hydraulic cutter, its quick quiet and takes no effort at all for them to use unlike the big handled bolt croppers that every one seems to think professionals use ;)

There are hand held tools out on the market these days that have over 9 metric tonnes of force and will cut through nearly any chain available in a second :)

Its unfortunate that CCTV is no longer a deterrent, the only thing you can fall back on now is insurance, the problem is that insurance companies dont pay out instantly and charge you more when you come to reinsure, nothing like being penalised for taking every precaution you can to stop the thieving gits doing you over :(

I dont deny it mate, do the crime, do the time etc. Naughty boy. Although it does sting a bit when I had genuinely forgotton to do it. I have 3 bikes in the garage all fully taxed which havent seen much tarmac over the last few months, I have since paid my fine, bought my tax and even gone to the DVLA to pay for back tax. I feel so much better too. :(

Anyway OFF TOPIC, sorry.

Really sorry to hear about the bikes guys; my gixer k4 got nicked from outside Paddington Station earlier this year. It was alarmed, Imobillised, disc locked also. My bike was 2nd from the end of a row, and when the bike on the end left, (or was stolen- i dont know for sure!) mine was exposed and nicked at 4.45pm as witnessed by a kind old lady! four men, two short scaffold poles and up and over int the back of a fridge van with false irish plates. I viewed the cctv from the hotel opposite as the police didn't- then i got them a copy to watch while they scoffed their doughnuts! All-in-all, orange and black gixer never to be seen again. Earlier, the same old lady had seen two lads on a scooter riding up and down photgraphing the various bikes with a camera phon then making calls while looking at the bikes. But guess what- no plate on the scooter. To finish- chain it TO something in London and get a Tracker.... Sorry story over.

my comment will not be helpful or make u feel better but i gotta say man, YOU ARE ONE UNLUCKY ****ER! you should get some sort of hub conversion for your wheels, like on the ol 80s mountin bikes hehe then they wont get there ****ing scaffold poles through and wire up a 12volt battery to the frame so when the ****s touch it they get electricuted ****ing thieving ****S sorry

Thanks for your sympathy guys. Having just spoken to the insurance company while being recorded (so they can do lie tests) the guy very kindly said "Your insurance will really suffer because of this! You need to decide how much you enjoy riding bikes!" I asked if he was a biker to which he said NO! Who the hell is he to comment then? Ar$ehole!

bad news. Im just on the corner of holborn and hatton garden so right by you guys too. I have the luxuary of parking under the building in the loading bay for the diamond dealers so its pretty safe but there is talk of us loosing our spaces so i may be turfed out. I suppose its so easy for the **** bags to get the bikes as they know full well your working and not staring at the bike all day. There should definately be anchor points by all the bays even if its just railings behind the bay. anyhting is better than nothing and it may help, if only a little.

My bike was found tonight on the Isle of dogs being ridden by some lowlife who scarpered.
Sadly he has dropped it and damaged both sides along with the electrics but it is back!

Funny thing is it was right behind the police station for the last few days!

Not sure how much it will cost to be honest the front nose fairing needs replacing and the tank is dented in on the top as well as the starter cover cracked and leaking oil.

But, becky says it is back.

do you know the insurance outcome? are they paying out in full as a right off / pay for repairs / give you noting etc.
Ive heard sometimes its best not to get the bike back thats all.

Tubbsy8
08-03-2007, 03:09 PM
Apparently they are paying for the repair. An assessor is coming to have a look at it.

in that case remove any bits that can be sold on as they might not have been on it when it was returned. pegs, seat hump etc that the insurance can replace and earn you some money....

just a thought.
