I've got a few bits to try out on my race bike, so am keen to get out again before my first race, not bothered on the track as long as i get out to play!
i've had a look and Hottrax are at Rockingham on both Good Friday (6th April) and Easter Saturday (7th April) - £129 per day.
Or No Limits are at Mallory on 7th April, £99.
Any takers for any of the above?
I should probably do Mallory as i will be racing there in May, but i love rockingham so much that it would give me a lot of confidence to try loads of stuff on the bike there without worrying about a circuit to learn as well.

Hmm, sounds good. Will consult with the bank manager.

This might sound daft Harrie, but if you arent doing Rockingham, then dont go there ;)
You need to do Mallory and every extra look at the corners is going to help when you race there, pointless track time on circuits that you wont ride arent going to benefit you at all ;)
At least if you do Mallory, you get a trackday perspective at it, get to try your new kit out and get an idea of whether or not you need to change your gearing for race day ;)
Mallory is an extremely technical track, not unlike Rockingham where getting out of the two main corners at the right speed is critical, ditch Rockingham and use Mallory to your advantage, you know it makes sense ;)

i'm hoping to get on a wednesday afternoon ACU session at mallory before the race which is in May.
i'm tempted to do rockingham and mallory but i know that's just greedy and might involve crashing...!

you need leathers that zip together all the way round, or a one-piece. other than that just your normal decent protective gear - decent boots, gloves, gold-stickered lid etc.
bike wise it all depends on you really.
i've done it by just turning up on my road bike and taking my number plate off, taping up my indicators and removing my mirrors...
good points - cheap as no van hire involved
bad points - not good in the p*ssing rain, not good if you happen to come off, you can't take much with you in a rucksack in terms of tools, nibbles etc.
i've also done it by slinging my bike in a van and with my bike sporting a track fairing.
good points - no need to worry so much about those pricey fairing panels (748 prices - no thanks), no need to ride home afterwards (you'll be pretty tired out), you can bring as much kit as you can fit in your van :grin2
bad points - need to beg/borrow/hire a van, take your road fairings off (easy on some bikes, a pain in the arse on others), get your bike in the van (need a ramp of some description)
the guys and gals on here have done a few now, so while you will feel nervous there will be people around to support you. much more fun than doing it on your own!
it really depends how hard you think you might want to push as to how likely you are to come off IMHO. if you want to just turn up, enjoy the sunshine and being out on the track, you should be fine.
if you're wanting to really push hard and work on a few things, then maybe it's better to accept you might slide off and prepare accordingly.
hope this helps :grin2 just do it you'll love it :grin2

From a non technical perspective :D I'd def make sure you do Mallory before you race there. First time round that bus stop is a bit daunting, but if you've done it before, least you know what to expect :)

Some one had said before about track insurance, do you need insurance?
also do you need to take your driving licence with you?
I have never done a track day so thats why i ask?

H'm might do that Mallory one myself if it aint full to kill two birds with one stone.
i need to reaquaint myself with Mallory and get some time on the Raptor, if I get it back together in time.to save wasting 400 test day time on it for Snett.
Can't be doing with driving 2 1/2 hours to Mallory just to spend the afternoon dodging the oil from the cars in the morning on the ACU days.

Nope changed me mind can't be a#sed. Too many short weeks already, I'm too busy, there's a million and one trackdays at Mallory this year nearer the time and I want to get Lenny's bike sorted for Easta.
The Raptor will have to be a quick learning curve in qualifying.
