Hi!
I'm hoping someone can give me a bit of help, I have a tzr 125 1988 but am having a few problems with it.
When I stop the bike after its been running petrol leaks out of the carb through the pipes & air filter, also there is oil coming from the left side of the power valve port whole, does this need to have a gasket or anything in it as it looks sealed ok?
Sorry if these sound like silly questions but im new to biking & cant find this information anyway.
Thanx in advance for any help anyone can give me.

I assume you mean the small overflow tubes on the carb?

Sounds like it's flooding to me. In which case you've probably got dirt under the float needle or the float needs adjusting. Or the float needle is plain and simply worn out.

If your really lucky you can turn the fuel off and undo the drain screw on the bottom of the carb (I assume the TZR 125 has one. then let it drain out. When you turn the fuel on again sometimes its just enough to shift the dirt. Give the float bowl (bottom of the carb) a tap with the handle of a screwdriver while your at it.
Sometimes the little clip on the float needle works its way round and doesn't let it close (a common problem on Aprilia 250s 2 seconds after they've called your race:grin2 ) so abit of arattle with the screwdriver handle will sometimes cure that too.

Also before you turn the fuel back on if the pipe comes off the tank easy blow down that.

Otherwise you'll have to whip the carb off and check the needle and float proerly, which isn't really that much of a job on any two stroke.

Dunno about the power valve port hole. Most two strokes I've had have a seal on the end of the power valve shaft but also outside the race bike most two strokes I've had have also oozed oil out of some orifice or another so as long as it's not sucking air there I wouldn't worry unless its loads.

Thanx for your advice, ive tried to clean the pipe & carb but still the same problem so must be that the float needs adjusting. Or the float needle is worn out.
The oil seems to be blowing out of the power valve port as there is some on the inside of the fairing so hoping this isnt a big problem.
I'm now going to google float needles & try this, thanx again for your help.

Your sure the oil's not just coming from the exhaust gasket where it attaches to the head?

I'm not familiar with TZR 125s but most of the two strokes have a small oil seal at the end of the power valve shaft, so I expect that's gone if the oils not coming from the exhaust gasket. In theory if it can blow oil out it can suck air in along the shaft which you don't wan't but having said tha tI've seen an aprilia 125 run with the power valver and shaft totaly missing so you take your chances.
If it's not much oil I personnaly I wouldn't worry about it bu don't hold me to it.:grin2

Take the carb off. Turn it upside down and they 'll be four screws or something similar holding the float bowl on. Take that off but be carefull you don't break the rubber gasket when you do.

The float is dead obvious .When if you tip the carb back wards and forward so the float moves up and down you'll see the little valve it works.
That little valve should move up and down freely as you tip the carb.
As I say I'm not up on TZR 125s but there will be a pin that the float pivots on. Normally they just tap out. If you take the float off the needle (little valve) will come out. Look under it to see if there's any crap in the hole it came out of. Also the little brass valve seat it sits in should unscrew as well. It's worth taking that out and checking under neath it. Sometimes what happens with old two strokes thast have suffered from previous DIY owner is bits of the rubber fuel pipe get shaved off but stay trapped under the valve seat and only pop through when the fuel comes in so you don't see unless you remove the seat as well.

Look at the needle itself. Roughly speaking the end looks like a sharpened pencil. It should be nice and smooth with no grooves in it or anything and no steps in the taper.
When you put it back together you should be able to blow through the fuel inlet then as you tip the carb the needle should stop you doing it. If not you still have a problem.

It all sounds a bit technical if you've never done it but once you get into it you'll find its all quite straightforward.

Can't tell you how to set the float height on them as I've never done a TZR 125. As a rule you just tip the carb untilt he float tang is just rest ing on the needle and then theres a measure ment from the face that the float bowl bolts up agianst (8mm on an Aprilai 250) and the bottom of the float. If its different to what the manual says then you just bend the tang that rest on the needle which ever way to bring it right.

Any thing you want to know about TZRs in general, ask on this site. They're all very helpfull.
