I am sure I have seen this written somewhere before but what are the different models for the RSV?

Whats the Difference between the Normal RSV, RSVR and Factory. I want one and thinking of going for the Factory cos I want the best one...

Thanks Lateshift....

New Shape

2004 onwards ;)

The 04 RSVR came with showa forks whilst the Factory had Ohlins, first version of the 'R' had axial brakes, then changed in 05 to radial brakes. the Factory has always had radial brakes fitted.

The 04 RSVR Brembo wheels fitted whilst the Factory had OZ Lightweight wheels.

The engines are the same, however the 04 and 05 engines are slightly less power than the 06 engines (we are talking 3bhp here).

The 04 RSVR had a Sachs rear shock, this was upgraded on the 06 model again (Still Sachs but more adjustability), the Factory has always had an Ohlins rear shock

RSVR does not come with a steering damper, Factory comes with Ohlins damper.

RSVR bodywork does not use Carbon, the Factory uses carbon bits, however its only the add on parts (all of which are available as accessories).

The earlier model RSV's and RSVR's are a different breed altogether, the new shape is far more track focussed and the riding position completely different.

Lower power on the early ones, most tend to hover around 118-128 at the wheel, the 98-99 RSV being the most low down grunt, the newer the bike the more mid range.

New shape RSVR and Factory tend to be around 135 at the wheel but throw out around 78ft/lb of torque as standard, with an airkit on and decent cans and the flapper valve mod it knocks up to around 82ft/lb :)

Basically for the pre 2004 models if you think of the RSV as the base model and the RSVR as the Factory (but without all the carbon), then you are on the right lines.

With the newer shape model they ditched the Mille name and the RSV, and just used RSVR and Factory.

for the early shape bikes there is only 3 bikes worth considering

02 Haga Replica
03 Colin Edwards Replica, full power 2-2 exhaust system
03 RSVR (had Ohlins front and radial brakes)

Wasn't there someone on here with a mint RSVR for sale, with some smashing upgrades, for a very reasonable price? :grin2

2004 Factory Model me thinks then.

I rode both the old 99 RSVR version and 04 Factory for Riot racing and really liked both of them..

The missus really likes the idea of them too more than a Rev happy Jap bike.

Used prices for the 04 Factory are still above what i am asking, the cheapest i have seen lately is £6000 and that was in NI ;)

Also the 04 was the one that had the swingarm recall and a few other problems so if you do settle for one of them make sure that the swingarm got changed too ;)

Basically all of the quirks that the 04 and 05 had got ironed out for the 06 :)

I cant really fault the new shape bike, it is a proper point and go bike, pinpoint accurate and revs more like a triple than a twin but still has the twin grunt in the corners :)

However i would give at least one of my testiballs to have an Edwards :)
