Hi there

Just getting a bit confused by this 2s 4s thing ? before i used to think that small bikes are 2t (250 cc and below) and bigger bikes where simpley 4t and some small bikes where 4 stroke but they are then very slow ...

I then noticed that Yamahas and hondsa new range of crossers have a CR250 and the CR250R 1s a 2s and the others a 4s ? i am just wondering which 1 will have better performance, alls i see visual vise is good old 2 strokes the massive front pipe and scream to hell and 4 strokes are alot deeper sounding and have no massive front pipe

Cos atm i am choosing a KMX125 or somthing but then a saw a XLR 125 and instantly though it was slow because of it being a 4 stroke and only a 125 ?

Could any1 shed some ligth on this

thx alot

2 strokes have much better performance CC wise. A 250 2 stroke can keep up with some 400 4 strokes.

remember that a 2 strokes have 2 strokes of the cyclinder per cycle where as 4 strokes have twice as much to do.

there is another topic somewhere about how the engines work.

A 125 2 stroke liek the KMX will be much much fastrer than the XLR. The 2 stroke will have more power and rev higher but the 4 stroke will have better low down grunt.

the plus side of 4 strokes is they are usually better with petrol, dont burn oil, better for the environment and dont need as much maintainance.

Hope this helps you out.

Thanks alot for that m8

I been rideing since i was 9 years old from pw80's to yz125's and i never really though about it

But yeah think i'll go with the KMX keep it on my CBT then go for my full 1

I was gonna get a rs125 or maybe even a mito but i learnt my lesson ... never get a full faired bike when ur learing the price of the panels is just silly :)

I figure get a nice KMX 125 2001 or somthing fall over and plastics are 20 quid a pop :)

And as u all proberly know crossers are tuff as nuts

agains thx for the advice TarkMalbot

But still why are yamaha and honda bringing out these 4 strokes ? the frames etc are not even downrated as lower east frist timer model they are proper YZ's and CR's with 4t engines . but anyhow i think i'll still go with the KMX .. don't really need low down grunt my m8s DT seems alot smother than my GPR50 .. screams to much fells like its gonna go pop anytime :)

Ahh, the good ol' Yamaha 2-stroke engines ;) There are lots of TZR owners in this forum with the 125cc version of that engine.
How old are, if you dont mind me asking? When are you planning to take your test?

D.

(oh, and welcome to the forum :) Post a message in HELLOOO!)

16 ,17 in a few months dood

I would to be mistaken as a moped "crew" boy :P

I got a derbi GPR 50 atm which is with a 1 down 5 up clutch driven engine
does 50mph easy 60 mph with a long stretch and if u go down a long cliff like hill it does 70

But i am going from a yz125 99 , to a 50 so after 2 months and 600 miles i am bored out my arse , i just dropped/it fell off (nothing bad) and now i gotta pay 191 quid for 1 panel so no more fully faired bikes for me till i think i can afford to

Yes i can see alot of ppl love the TZR on here thats all there is in the 2 stroke forum :D

btw nice bike m8 i like those older n30 nc35 bikes

Sorry to hear about your accident - glad to hear you jumped back on :) only way to do it.

Panels are stupidly expensive and is the reason its so easy to write off newer bikes these days. Still, you can replace a panel easier than a body part, so you got off lightly mate.

Thanks - tis my pride and joy

Most of us are from Essex, just the other side of Lakeside - you'll have to join us on a ride out when the weather gets a bit better. In fact, Lakeside tends to be the meet point for all our meets!

i'd be up for a ride , but only when i get a 125 ... wanna atleast keep u in viewing :)

yeah i am down lakeside a fair bit ... but since bluewater opened i don't go as much

Anyhows In this weeks performance bikes ( i normally read bike) they are saying how 125 2 strokes compete with 250 4 strokes ... and on page 34 "two-strokes make more toque than four strokes" and " if two-strokes and four-strokes competed like for like the two-strokes would waste them"

So i guess that answers why question , but still wonder why honda, yamaha make 250 2t and 250 4t ?

Anyhow as long as a XLR won't kill a KMX i am fine

Right. To answer your question once and for al about the 2S 4S thing.

Some people like middle aged men dont want to be reving to 12,000 rev all the time. They like to plod at lower revs and pull away nicely on their 4 strokes. An XLR is a great trail bike for the lanes and you dont have to go flat out everywhere.

These people would rather use an XLR to go out and dig thier bait with on the beach.

Basically its personal preferance and for round town a 4s is hard to beat, even if it is slower top end.

There you go.

now you see?? 8)
