something really weird happened today i was going round a round-a bout and saw a fellow biker on my left, i thought id show him some power and opened it up onto the straight, however at the next round-a-bout i dropped it down to second and the bike just went mental,

the rev counter was off the hook and the bike was screaming,if i hadnt of kept the clutch in im sure i would of gone flying down the road on the back wheel to certain injury, i chucked it into neutral turned off the bike, turned it back on and still the same thing,

i pushed the bike over the local bikeshop which was only metres away, he came out wound the throttle twice turnt it over and it started just like normal, he said something may of got caught, and warned me to keep my hand on the clutch, anyone experienced this before, im a little hesitant when riding now

sounds like you need to check the throttle cable isnt sticking or theres nothing catching up and sticking in the carb/s

the thing is 20 year old and needs replacing, hopefully it will hold til next summer, throttle is fine, dont really fancy going into it blind, everything i touch has a knack of exploding or not working anymore, lol

Saw a Ducati Monster on Hylands Park Road a few years back, the old A12. Very fast, very straight.
He'd pulled over because, he said, he'd been riding along when suddenly the bike took off, as if the throttle was stuck open. Turned the bike off and managed to get over to the side of the road.

That particular bike had two cables, one to open, one to close the throttle. One had snapped, bet you can't guess which one!!

Anyway, if your cables haven't been lubed in a while (oo-er) then might be worth a go. You said it happened at the roundabout. Was it as you were turning the bars? One of the cables might have got stuck, or be routed incorrectly?

sounds like the cable end is just lifting out of its clip and jamming open thats why its screaming its head off , so when someone twisted the throttle a couple of times it dropped back in ,i had the same prob quite a few years ago on a Kawasaki 750 triple
