Err u seem to be the local Expert here Fubar(or if any 1 else thinks they are :) ) so i got a few questions for u if u don't mind

I am trading my Derbi GPR50(02 1100kms) in for a KMX125 (01 5600niles) its a nice red and black 1 from a dealer not to far away.
Just wondering the differce from a KMX to a DT this being because i want a DT like bike , is the KMX just the same thing but a differnt make ?

what bhp are they ?
Whats top end speed (won't be alot cos its a non faired bike)

Also what should i look out for when i test it out ? and also if i do get this 1 what sorta things should i get done replaced and how often (in miles)

Only mods i'll be planning when/if i get the bike if maybe a nice DEP,FMF pipe on there since the 1 on a standard DT is {EB} (i expect the same from the standard KMX) :)

if u could jusy some up the pros and cons for me that would be great

I would be looking at a faired bike cos i will be keeping this 125 for a year or 2 but since i am paying out 500 quid just for a 15mph slip on cosmetic damage on my GPR(faired) i think i'll get somthing i can afford to ride without being **** scared of having a little slide

Any advise or help would be great

KMX and DT are similar like you say. Some of the DT models have a YPVS and as far as i can remember a a bit faster then the KMX  . De-restricted (similar way to the TZR sometimes with washer in exhaust) are about 26bhp. Not as much as the TZR but they dont rev as high. You will be looking at about 80mph top speed from a DT.

I have never riden a KMX but when test riding look for the usuals. Start at the front of the bike and check wheels, bearings, disks, pads, fork seals, and fork operation, head stock and bearings, handlebar lock, all switches and throttle, lighs and indicators etc, front brake operation, brakes fluid level, leaking from the readiator and exhaust, water level, footpegs, gear selecter and seal, rear brake lever, swingarm bushes, wheel bearings, rear pads and disk and then just stand there and rub your chin for a while.

Start the baby up from Cold and see what she sounds like, and how smocky it is. this isn't too much of a problem on a 2 stroke and will be quite smokey at startup. Wait till warm and listen for any wear in the engine, and tapping noises form the cylinder go for a spin and see how she goes.

The DT might have a Nickle Plated bore like the TZR so cant be re-bored so costs more if work has to be done.

Pros are that they are fun to ride, you can go off road, easy to handle pretty quick etc etc.

Cons are they are......??? not as fast as faster bikes?

Hope this helps.

I am good to you aren't I?

I would go for a DT or KMX.

There are more fun to ride than a TZR RS Mito etc etc. You can pull great wheelies and go off road!

YPVS is Yamaha Power Valve System.

2 strokes have poor performance at low revs due to the high power band etc etc.

This valve is in the exhaust port and keeps the exhaust outlet small at low revs so that it runs smoothly. When you get to 6000 revs or so the valve starts to open the exhaust port up and the 2 strokes power comes into play!

Most newer 2 stroke bikes use some sort of valve. Some and like a knife valve (Suzuki) where as Yamahas use a butterfly valve that spins round.

Mitos and Apprillas have some type i am not farmilliar with (italian rubish! LOL) Accuators and the like.

LOL

Get a Trail bike!! After all its only a 125 and it wont cost you an arm and a leg if you drop it and wiull be good fun! All these TZR's etc etc are like Superbike frames with a 125 engine trapped in them! Wait till you grow up and get a propper superbike!

Although i did have a TZR125R
