I have a stripped loom and total loss on my track zxr. Dynotech sorted it for me, so if you're looking at doing it yourself, don't ask me :D

They gave me a lovely big bag of spaghetti back though when they'd finished and a lovely shiny coppery wirey thing :grin2 Oh and the ignition barrel et al.

Hopefully someone with a clue will come on and make some sense of it for you shortly :grin2

You can have a look at mine though if it helps :D

Dal, if this is just for occasional track use i really really wouldnt bother, i put up with the total loss purely because the bike came like that, but i can tell you that for anything other than racing its a complete pain in the arse :D

You need to be able to plug into an optimate in between sessions or change batteries to guarantee its going to last all day, any electrical problems and it can see you returning to the pits rapidly.

Fairy snuff it does take some stuff out of the equation and save a small bit of weight (and the lack of charging gear helps the motor spin up a bit quicker) but for trackdays the benefits are outweighed heavily by the disadvantages, much the same as taking the side stand off causes more problems too :D

Hmmm, Maybe total loss is not what I want then, I want to retain the charging but loose all the wiring that goeas to the bits I'm gonna remove eg: Lights, indicators, ignition etc :grin2

If its just the lights and stuff you are talking about then they can be removed without any problems, nearly all the wiring runs direct from the fuse box to the point of use, when i converted Jetski's bike i simply taped the connections up securely and left them in place, the charging system is the real weight saver, just removing the wiring that goes to the lights etc doesnt really amount to much.

I think to go total loss and race loom, on one of these 400's you are left with around 5 wires in total :D

easiest thing to do would be to look at the wiring diagram and just remove and terminate any wire that doesnt interfere with the dash lights (oil, neutral etc) and also the tacho, remove the speedo as you dont need it, then work your way round with the main lights, indicators and rear lights etc (they can all be removed without too much of a problem).

on my monster, all my wires are just taped up, but we're not allowed total loss on the bikes anyway.

all the lights and indicators had to be removed for racing (by the lovely parkys, thanks chaps!) and i got a similar box of bits back with my bike should i ever wish to put it back to road use.

pointless post or what....sorry dal! (by the way i had to go and look at your garage pictures again recently, i'm doing mine out soon and wanted to have a little daydream about what it could look like!)

Totally agree with Mike there. for trackdays total loss is more hassle than it is worth.

Even on an all singing all dancing full spec 400 race bike most track day bikes are still gonna pass you on the straights an exiting the corners (riders being equal) anyway so 2hp is not gonna make any difference. Also i take it you weren't going to lighten the generator itself so its even less worth the bother.

Even when you take the regulator and everything off saving is barely 1/2 a kilo. If your that desperate, cut out the pies for a couple of weeks.:grin2
