Can anybody tell me what fired hoops, or how many double decker buses i have to jump over to get into the Rideout's & gatherings sections,

My m8 who is a member on here also told me to see that section to find out what was going on & if i went on one of these then we'd catch up n have a chat, also i'd like to get a bit more involved, and as the white heart is close to me i wouldnt mind attending but i dont know what time or anything,

I have done as the user cp says & requested it to a group leader & i've also dropped him a pm, its been about 2- 1/2 weeks since my first request.

So What do i do Assume that im not wanted!!! despite the warm welcome i got from the forum when i joined???

Confused :~} i am just slightly!!

You have done the right thing by requesting the membership for the 'Ridesout and Gatheringz' and it will happen in time...............Dan will sort that.

As for the White Hart, it happens on a Wednesday, a lot of people meet at the BP Garage at Boreham Interchange on the A12 at about 19:30, but other people start to turn up at the pub from about 20:00 onwards

Dont get nothing unless you ask mate ! No need to be embarresed:grin2

Unfortunatly the only person that can give you access is dan........and he aint about that often so its just a case of waiting.........bit of a pain......but it will get sorted in the end im sure.

Most of us just take it for granted (cos we have access) that everyone will now whats happening and sadly forget about any noobs........but it isnt on purpose, honest, you should now by now your more than welcome and hope to see you at the pub:grin2

Just out of interest, why is the ride out bit private ?

Surely it would be better being open as some may not want to post but might read about stuff and just turn up. Why couldn't we have a different room that is private ?

think some of it may be to do with the plod tez, i know on another couple of forums they had a few occasions where the plod checked out site's like this so they could turn up for meets/rideout's etc. apart from that im sure there must be another couple of reasons

100% correct and its also down to other things such as organising group trackdays etc.

There are also some things that dont need to be on full view for the general populace, but i am starting to think that section should be automated and set to reveal itself as soon as you hit a certain post count, maybe 10 or something (that way it takes the pressure of Dan having to authorise it, it doesnt need mentioning either).

That wouldn't make a lot of difference John. We always ride on well know routes where the old plod hang out anyway.

(and horseriders, car exhausts, coots etc etc)

Ahhhhhhhhhh......thats a good reason.
I still think we should have a general banter area set up the same though. Especially as we often post stuff in the ride outs bit that are not ride out etc related just cause we think the subject should be kept private.

ah but we havent always, (pulls up chair and takes a puff on the pipe) back in the old days :D

we used to have quite a gathering free from seeing the Police, and not usually just up to the likes of Burnham and Finchingfield.

sadly Fall Off and Co have since removed their bikes from the road and converted them to track days but some of the best rides i have had have been out in the sticks up in Cambridgeshire and Hertfordshire as i recall :D

(also some of the quickest too :D :D )

i would have edited the title to reflect what you really wanted to say but unfortunately you put it in a forum that only Dan has the options to edit in :D

Muchus apologies - all pending requests have been authorised, there were 6.

As for why it is private, it's not to do with the ol billimus maximus - no one in here gets very far with anyone if they turn up to rideouts and ride like idiots, and you'd be suprised as to what the cops will let you get away with. I suppose its all down to the individual, but all police who have got involved with this site have been all about training riders in their own spare time to make them safer on the roads - never worried about sports cans or number plates... anyway, a topic for another thread (and forum!).

Someone had a good idea a few posts back... restrict peoples access to the rideouts forum until they hit a certain number of posts... hrm, i wonder if thats possible. I'll have a play. If i could, what sort of post count do you think this could be set at?

Sorry again for the delay... i'm gonna see if I can give the mods access to the groups config... i suck at finding time to come on here as much as I need to!

Cheers,
Dan.

As far as the user rights go, from what i can see its a case of creating yourself as a 'super admin' and moderators as standard admins, from there as the super admin you can then restrict admins to performing only tasks that you allow them to do (much the same as you do with moderators) however as an admin they have more rights to perform stuff like granting access etc and also hitting the ban button on users that act up :D

With regards to the post count (and me purely thinking out loud) i would have thought 10-15 posts would be sufficient for granting access to the restricted section, probably implementing a rule that denies the creating of threads in the for sale section too until the post count has been reached, that way it stops anyone just nipping in and posting a free advert and then sodding off, and it also gives other users on here a feel for who they could be potentially buying from first rather than just buying blind ;)

Gixxer-TeZ
08-06-2007, 05:31 AM
Just an idea, food for thought or whatever regards the sale/wanted section.

I used to set my sites up to automatically prune that section after 60 days to keep the threads easier to search. Place a sticky in there stating this so people know, and if after 60 days there item isn't sold they can simply re-advertise it (bit like on ebay I suppose.)
At least people don't have to trawll through loads of old stuff that has sold etc, and it all helps keep the server usage down.

Sorry, I'm gonna be a numpty here, but I still can't see why the ride outs is restricted while the other areas like romford market is open ???

(And I'm only asking before I get moaned at again) :grin2

Lateshift
08-06-2007, 08:13 AM
We still need a hidden area regardless of what its for, even if its purely to thrash out anything to do with the site, there are certain things that can be talked about between users that dont need to be on public view initially as they create the wrong impression ;)

And despite what some people think, the Police do check motoring websites, you would be surprised as exactly what information they can glean from places like this, stuff that might not seem particularly interesting to us can mean a whole lot to a bunch of organisations out there ;)

you only have to look at the consequences of filming yourself speeding and then advertising it on you-tube to realise that people do take an interest ;)

Gixxer-TeZ
08-06-2007, 05:50 PM
I agree with that but the only thing I would like to raise that if the ride out part was public maybe some people who are not registered or choose not to post might decide to attend the ride outs.
There have been a few comments about lack of interest so a bit more publicity wouldn't hurt would it !!

Shorty
08-06-2007, 06:01 PM
some rideouts do get put in the public sections occasionally. but i think it is better to have the rideouts section restricted. maybe add another public rideouts section for the members who dont apply for access, so people can see that we do go on rides. i dunno lol :D

Lateshift
08-06-2007, 06:05 PM
Publicity is one thing but surely you would introduce yourself first before just turning up somewhere and have everyone wondering just who on earth you are? :D

At least that way you know you are going to be welcome and also waited for :D

I see exactly where you are coming from and to a degree i appreciate what you are saying, i still think having a restricted section allows a degree of privacy to be able air views, advertise stuff that maybe shouldnt be on full view and even advertise more exclusive stuff that is more relevant to those that are regular readers/posters, and not the nosey types that dont post and dont bother to get involved in the first place :)

Gixxer-TeZ
08-06-2007, 06:18 PM
Yes but surely airing views and advertising isn't connected to ride outs ?

All I'm saying is, yes for a restricted area but why the ride outs section ? I've attended events advertised on sites before purely by reading the post and not registering or replying to the thread.

On another note re: the old bill watching the site, if your gonna attend a ride out or event and do something to attract attention, then surely that would be the type of person who would do that anyway regardless of wether they are on one of EB's ride outs or not.

??

Gixxer-TeZ
08-06-2007, 06:22 PM
just another point, the ride outs i've been on have only ever mentioned the meeting point and possible destination in the thread, never the exact route where 'any offences commited' the old bill would be interested in.

Sorry ....... I sort of understand in theory, but in practice it all seems a bit hazey to me.
