I decided to fit the tank to the 400 and the bloody thing has about 3 or 4 pin holes near the tap.:shooter I found out because I stupidly put about 2 litres of petrol in before I noticed it was filling my shoes up :o

Anyway what could I use to seal it?

Araldite?

I think this will do the job :jumping2 it says it resists petrol and bonds to metal. And the best bit is the price :grin2

nah that would be wattle and daub :D

that chemical metal stuff does the job nicely, its holding a ZXR400 radiator together nicely for Mr Polden :D

I used araldite (think thats how you spell it) once on a petrol tank for pin holes, and it worked...............

If you get stuck Dal, drain the tank and air it right out and mark where the holes are and get the tank to me and I'll take in into to work and see if I can tig weld the holes up for you

No not at all, I just decided my reccomendation ( how we do them)was slightly dangerous so not to be reccomended on an open forum.

As far a tig welding petrol tanks goes firstly welding used petrol tanks is a mugs game unless the money makes the risk worth while. I've still seen tanks explode after they've been washed out and purged with nitrogen. Petrol is at its most explosive 3% petrol to air ie when the tank is empty. Ask any professional fireman about empty fuel tanks and they give you a list of horror stories.

And yes yes loads of people weld petrol tanks. Loads of people defuse bombs too but you only need one to go off.

Secondly if a ZXR tank has got to the point where the bottom has rusted through you'l be chasing holes all day (unless you get fed up of the rust jumping up onto your tungsten first) unless you patch it properly.

Either balm up the whole area with chemical metal, Araldite or something similar or buy another one off Ebay. My last one was thirty quid.

You should wash it out too because again by the time ZXR 400 tanks rust through they're usually full of cr4p.

By the way I forgot to say. If you are ever in a muddle (eg away from home etc) a big hadle full of silicon slapped on the bottom of a tank kept a 3mm hole in an Escort tank from leaking for five years.:grin2

Oh the cutting sarcasm. :grin2

So i have a bad sense of direction, what can I say. :grin2

I actually wadged it on there late at night to get the car to London in the morning (Van wouldn't go in NCP car park) after I'd knocked a hole,in the tank reversing over something with err rather too much welding gear and stuff in the back. It never did leak, I just painted the silicon black to match the tank and the car quite happily went through four MOTs until I eventually scrapped it.

I've got a spare zxr 400 tank. It has abig dent in it but it doesn't leak. (I used it at Brands if Feb myself while I was waiting for the yellas)

I'll bung it in the van then if yours does start leaking or anything you can just swap your fule tap and lid over and use that.

Cheers Phil,

Remember mines a H2 :grin2

But this one should be ok as it's a different tank from the leaky one.
The Silver (leaky one) had pin holes all over the place. So I cut my losses and replaced it with this taty looking thing but does seem fuel tight.

It's been in my garage now for almost a week with half a tank of fuel and seems ok ;)

Ah you've **** it then the frame rails are two narrow on the H for the L tank.

I'm now 28 rear, 30 front on Super Corsas but to be honest I can't tell any difference from the 30R 31 F I used to run so take your pick.

Dunlops 30 rear or 31 front seems to work best on a 400.
