Well as I keep trying to contribute to EB in some way and failing large style, it dawned on me today I may be able to help some of you.

As I am a plater/welder, I am willing to help out on welding issues should anyone get in the pooh. Only conditions are the part should really be off the bike and all you have to do is get it to me and pay for any metals or stuff I use/have to buy in for it. If I have any off-cuts laying around I can use, then all the better for you.

Haven't got a bit of 316 Stainless sheet, mirror polished one side 1.7mm L x 300mm wide x 1.5mm (16g) thick floating around by any chance have you? Or 14g or even 18g at a push?

1.7mm L

Thats a slim bit of ss.

Did you mean 1.7 L or was that a typing error ? We have loads of stainless. Not sure what gauges though as we scrap a lot of the off cuts but I'll have a look what we have on monday as I'm in the yard most of the day making stringers up for a job were on tuesday.

Staircases the thrill a minute job of the steel proffession. :grin2

:grin2 No that's a typo. 1.7 metres long. 300 ish miilimetres wide. 16g.

Must be 316 and mirror polished though not dull polished.

Mirrir polished sheet is dear I'm not expecting it for nothing I'm just trying to avoid buying a whole sheet I'll never use just for one little job.

We use a fair bit of St St but not much polished sheet. Most of the sheet we use is dull polish or brush finish but even that I try not to keep to much of as it get contaminated by all the mild steel dust in the air.

Not this one it isnt, but it might be for the other :D

I reckon he is getting the armour ready for the bike myself, half way through the season and still going strong, the mirror finish is just to save him having to polish it aswell :D

Thank god for that. I was trying to work out how I could cut the width. :laugh1

Not sure if we have any but I've made a note and will have a look Monday. We do use it as some of us have a few little projects on the go and buy it in for that (kit cars and stuff).

As for the staircases.....Yup......we do loads of them along with walkways, silo's, pipework, machine guards and just about anything if it's steelwork. Just got a nice job making 6 transfer tubes for a factory out of stainless. 1800 diameter x 17 mtrs long with various valves that we turn off on the lathe ourselves.

Keep us busy for a few days :reading

Right Phil. We have no mirror polished in stock at all and according to the work sheets for the next couple of months we are not likely to have any either but I could possibly sort out part polished 316 this week as long as I can dig out an off cut as they'll weld the wheels up on my car if I cut into a new sheet.

No I didn't think you would have, worth asking though.:)

Don't worry, I have plenty of dull polished 316.

Thanks for looking anyway.:)

It's one of those pain in the butt little jobs that one of my best customers has sneaked into the front of my desperate for it queue*:grin2 that I need to get done (among other things) before I can go and play racing this weekend.

No one really keeps polished sheet, I'll go to plan B when I work out what plan B is.:grin2

*(ahead of the very urgent, urgent, can't even look at it until after August and the no rush queues.:grin2)
