Hi folks
If you're got a Michelin Pilot Power 2CT or a Pilot Power 120/70 ZR17 tyre please check out this link.

Due to a manufacturing fault there is a recall on some of the tyres.

Well i still havent received my letter from them authorising the tyre change at the nominated dealer, to be honest considering i rang the helpline number on Wednesday morning and gave all my details in, i am surprised that they havent sent it as a matter of urgency.
I use the bike as my sole form of transport in and out of London and if they are advising me not to use the bike then i dont see how they can make you wait a week to get a letter.
Pretty pants to be honest.
I am tempted to go and get some of the new Qualifier RR's fitted and then take the tyre to be replaced into the fitters and just get them to swap it for the new one, then sell the tyre! :D

I haven't got my letter either and I also made the call the Wednesday  Obviously it's not as important to me as you guys (bikes for pleasure only) I have to agree though I expect it as a matter of urgency :shooter
Looks like I have one on the RSV. Just dont tell Mandy until I have it changed...
Guys I phoned Michelin today to find out what the hell is going on and they are now not sending out letters. :shooter
If this is what you were told phone them NOW!!!!

They gave said in about 2 weeks michellin will call me with a code that the dealer will also have. I then need to call the dealer and book the bike in and will ID myself with the code. They said that they will keep the tyre that they remove and will cover any costs.

The first thing i did this morning is spoke to Michelin UK technical department about this and was quite annoyed to find that after already waiting for this non existant letter for a week, its now going to be another week before they even have the replacement tyres to cope with the demand for them by commuters, let alone any casual riders.
So having had quite a few lengthy chats with various people at Michelin about this i am sending a snotty letter to them :)
First of all this is a safety recall, and when you register your details you are warned that you should not use the bike unless you really have to and that if you do use it, under no circumstances should you exceed the national speed limit.
The second part of the statement i am fine with, however the first part does not help if its your only form of transport and you commute to work on it.
What is not mentioned there is the fact (and i clarified this with them) that once you have registered your details and have been warned not to use the bike, technically if the tyre falls apart, you have no way of taking them to court over it, its a safety recall and you are aware there is an issue and as such have been given a warning not to use the bike.
So going further into this, i explain to the various people that the general rule for changing tyres especially on a sports bike is 2 rears to 1 front.
This they agreed with and even went so far as to agree that for me to put a new front on with a rear that has done over 3000 miles straightlining is going to possibly upset the handling of the bike, my intention had been to obviously replace the rear first.
So i then mentioned the possibility of lost earnings, inconvenience due to having to change travel arrangements and such like and suggested that as compensation (seeing as technically my bike should have been off the road for a week already and is supposed to be until they finally get a tyre for me) that they should cough up for a rear tyre aswell.
I got told to write to the customer service department, which is precisely who i was talking to :D
I even went so far as to tell them that i couldnt wait any longer and that i would now have to go and get a set of other leading brand tyres fitted so i could get the bike back on the road, and was pretty much told that i have their sympathy :D
Really speaking i can appreciate that the recall of 68,000 tyres is no small task but to have to wait for Michelin to import new tyres, then to have them ship them individually to the fitter of your choice before you can even consider taking the bike to get it fitted is ridiculous, the waiting time has the potential for some serious compensation claims against the company from people who rely on their bike as their sole form of transport!
I can also appreciate that Michelin could turn round and say that in reality the rear tyre is your problem, but most riders do go through 2 rears to 1 front, however if you are forced into changing the front due to their safety recall then put off the road for a couple of weeks due to them not being able to meet demand, surely customer service would be doing everything they could to keep the people happy.
I guess if they cant help Rossi at the moment then your average rider doesnt stand a chance :D
Having said all that it now looks like i am going to get some Qualifier RR's fitted, then take the old tyre back to the fitters, collect my new 'loose' tyre when it arrives and then either sell it half price or burn it to ease my temper :D
signed Not happy with Michelin (and their dirty French production line! :D )
I just called my local bike shop and gave them the datails of the tyre and letting them deal with it. They said they will contac Michelin and see what they can do to get hold of a tyre for me. I will see what they come back with. Might put a set of my part worn race tyres on if the weather will pick up for more than 10 mins!

I have recieved a pair of Corsa III today, l am having them fitted tomorrow. I think it is the lack of communication of the situation that p**ses me off:headbash :shooter. I am sure Michelin is having some difficult moment dealing with this. But they have done a cr*p PR job :headshootof it l say. So l thoroughly understand Latey's frustration. It is nonetheless nice of them to let us know that they have put some dodgy front tyres in circulation so that at least we can take precautions.
I did thoroughly enjoyed my 2CTs, they were really brilliant. If the Pirelli is as good, l shall not be looking back. My R1 came with dunlops from new, l hated them because they were not very grippy. Cornering was a nightmare on them but they were hard wearing. Got about 6000 miles each from both sets l have used. With that said, it has put me off all dunlop tyres. The thought of that tyre does not warm my heart to the Qualifier RR which l hear is a very good tyre.
For me it was a toss up between the Corsa III and the BrIdgestone BT 014. I have decided to try the Corsa first and at next tyre set change try the BT 014.

In defence of Dunlop i am another that never got on with them, however at the CSS up at Rockingham i had no choice but to use a new R6 fitted with the new Qualifier RR tyres (there is a big difference between them and the standard Qualifier and also the OEM fit ones ;) ) and rode the bike in the wet without any problems at all, i dont doubt they make good road tyres :)
On that note though, depsite the amount of reading and stuff i do about bikes, it had never dawned on me until i read the article recently that the tyres that come fitted on a new bike (OEM tyres) are nowhere near as effective as the replacement ones (the ones you go and get fitted yourself) this was actually confirmed too by some of the tyre manufacturers, the reason being is that the OEM tyre is designed to be slightly harder due to a number of reasons (length of time the bike could be sat in the showroom or crate for and also so the customer gets a tyre that doesnt wear out in a month of riding).
Strange but true :)

Thats odd, I rang bridgestone the other week when i was looking for a replacement 014 for my k6 & asked the question "What's the difference between the OEM 014 that came with the bike or a "generic" off the shelf 014 & was told by Bridgestone............Wait for it!!!........."No difference at all"!!!

Which does sound strange because the BT014 was one of the ones that was tested (as were all of the top sports tyres).
It was also proven too that the control tyre that they use for the R6 cup is not the same road tyre that you can buy from the fitters too, although it was initially touted as being the same tyre ;)

Can you get some £9 notes, rocking horse poo and snake oil whilst you are at it.
What bikes if any come fitted with 2CTs? Be interesting to have a look at the dates on the tyres. Maybe the OEM ones are just left lying around in storage for ages?

are they the RR's or the first run of the Qualifiers Dave? :)
As you can see (even though they had only been available for a year)
http://www.motorcycletyresuk.com/picsnew/Qualifier%20Pair.jpg
They have changed the Qualifier to the Qualifier RR and given the front tyre a different tread pattern too
http://www.dunlopmotorcycle.com/tires/92_1_closeup.jpg
They were launched at a press day at Rockingham the day before we were there, the likes of Niall McKenzie and Leon Haslam amongst other less well known people like Don Plane, Chad Hashmi and Ricky Chadwick were let loose on them and had a hoot by all accounts, no crashes depsite the amount of tyres being smoked around the circuit :D
