The cheek of it!!!!
Got up this morning to find a letter adressed to "the occupant" (ME)
From a PO BOX somewhere un east anglia. It reads.....

Registration E******J (WRONG)
Dear sir,
The motorcycle with the above registration number has been reported to our department.
As you are the reistered keeper (its registered to my mums in benfleet) its our duty to contact you.
This vehicle has been reported to us for speeding in a residentual Area
Namely New Abbotts Way, Springfield.
Residents have supplied video evidence (cool)
The evidence clearly shows this vehicle traveling between 50 and 60mph
This area is currently 30mph zone
we also have reason to believe that the exaust system fitted is not legal for road use
this letter should serve as a warning
we working in conjunction with Essex Police and V.O.S.A
If this vehicle is reported to us again we will submit our evidence to Essex police.
Yours cencery (squiggle)

I mean cheeky bastards! Anyone a copper know anything about this so called "speed awareness group" I mean its all looks like fake! Its been done on a home PC Adressed to my home not the registration address not even got my name or the right registration!?

So what you think about this awarenss letter? Some moron who reads MCN fancied sticking his nose in? Or should I be worried!?

Well thats how i stumbled upon this advert i couldnt find such a group anywhere although i'm no professional googler like kasandrich or lateshift!

But i think its as you said someone poking their unwanted nose in is there an address for them or just a po box?

if there is u could always write back or phone them (if a number is provided & say theres no bike registered at the address & ask how they got your address) at the end of the day i'd be more intreged how they got your details' as the registration is wrong thats more worrying what else can they find>??

There no phone number just a PO BOX adress which I doubt exists. No name or anything. Completely anonymous! Chicken ****! The envelope is hand written with no post code indicating that they have followed me to my house! Which is 100m from the road I was ment to be speeding on!

Worrying!

Didnt say nowt about the CBR600RR I got in the garage tho! Wait til both of em go tearing up there he will love that! If hes has got video evidence it must be poor quality hence why they got the plate wrong because they got part of it

Have you been a naughty boy or not?

Ask them to suply you with this so called evedance on camera. If not then tell them to bogg off. Must have something or they wouldnt have got your name (spelt wrong) and address. Or someone you know is having a laugh at your expence.

Besides only the Police and local council can give you notice of this. Anyone else and I think its something to do with the Data Protection Act for giving your details to a 3rd party without your knoledge. Dont quote me on the DPA thing. I'd go with the some kind of wind up if the bike is registered at another address.

The guy didnt have my name.... nor did he have a postal code or correct number plate!

In the first instance i think its a bit of an anal thing to do given that its obviously a locally organised group thats issued this, and probably nothing to do with the authorities in anyway shape or form, however

The statement you make there Jay doesnt really put you in any better light though does it?

Firstly its written in a public part of the forum so anyone can view your attitude, secondly if you want to go tearing up and down a 30mph residential area in revenge dont expect any sympathy from many round here when you get lifted again (escaped already with a ban havent you? ;) ). The 30mph limit is there for a reason and normally a good one, most sensible riders understand and respect it and try not to get carried away, on open roads play to your hearts content but ask yourself this, loud can and a git on a bike causing a nuisance for others is just asking for trouble anyway ;)

Lastly werent you just posting on the thread about Motorcyclists Awareness?

Surely reporting bad drivers as is the parogative and feeling of many riders, gives pedestrians who are ****ed off with anti-social bikers the right to complain too?

Its no different than me having to sit and listen to 30 Chavved up cars sitting outside our house every second Saturday of the month as they sit at the lights waiting to go down Southend Sea Front, and whilst i wouldnt mind taking a shotgun to each and everyone of them for making me put up with their crap music played at 110db (okay i dont go and complain about it, but you can see how others might not like listening to someone ragging a bike up there neck of the woods ;) ).

Personnally i would just sit and laugh at the letter though :D

Oh and this isnt meant to sound patronising or anything like that, i just prefer to respect other people and try to understand that what we do for enjoyment still annoys others ;)

How could a local resident have video evidence that you were speeding? Surely their domestic video recorder doesnt hold a valid Speed Calibration Certificate?

Quite!! but......... residents in nearby areas to burnaham (althorne) have been armed with such equipment, my brother had a stern talking to for a cornering incident with video evidence from a shakey handed ole boy who was frustrated as he thought he was doing his bit & his evidence wouldnt stack up as he was not correctly trained to use it!!

So i am yet to hear of any evidence provided by a resident that would stand up to lead to a conviction or anything more than a talking to!!

Anyone else know anything about this?

I have to say, being a Burnham Resident, the infamous "Weekend Warriors" who invade the village are a pain the rectum! The "Bikers" who come down to test the chicken strips on the Burnham Bends are no trouble.

Ive seen the loan bike cop standing at Fords Garage in Althorne for the past 3 Sundays. I would suggest he goes there Monday-Friday between 6.30 and 7.30am because he could earn triple in salary in a day stopping all the commuters heading out of Burnham.

I ride to my office in Chelmsford everyday and I would estimate that 99.9% of the traffic heading out of Burnham, through Althorne is breaking the 30mph limit.

Would have to agree my bro goes into burnham at that time & was stopped by the copper after said corner incedent, & i Qoute

" Son, Where in the highway code does it say you can drive like a twat! forward round corners not sideways please!" followed by something along the lines of here's my lil shredder insert your licence please!! :clap

I did laugh at him!!

Its clear that this is a local action group, no different to a neighbourhood watch scheme really ;)

I think the idea is that they try to scare you into seeing the error of your ways when in actual fact it probably just servers to annoy (as it appears to have done here :D ).

However judging speed isnt a science, its a calculation, nothing more, you can work out someone's rough speed just by counting how long it takes for them to go from A to B (the only rough part in the calculation is how quick you count :D ).

I am sure i have seen some action groups in other areas of the UK that have actually self funded speed 'monitoring' equipment too ;)

I am also sure that video evidence can be used, after all the Police can come to an area that has CCTV and use footage for a conviction in an incident that is shown on it, they can also convict on home made video footage made by bikers using bullet cams too.

I think in this day and age if video evidence could be used from whatever source (providing its come from a credible one) could and would be used if the offence warranted it in the first place :)

At the end of the day (apart from it getting dark) its nothing to worry about, if it was me i would probably be more aware that i had caused a nuisance to someone down that road and try to make sure that i didnt annoy them further :D

But thats just me, possibly because i prefer a quiet life where possible :D

For the beneift of the tape :reading :grin2 (sorry) you can actually find out the correct details of a PO Box Address from the post office. Just because they use one it dosn't mean people can't find out where you are.

I know because I had a PO Box address for 11 years.

Call the post office about it.

Lateshift - Well how can a man argue with reason!?

The fact is that I ride everyday to work, but dont use the stretch that is in question every day, maybe once or twice in a week and at varied times. If I was speeding it wasnt 60mph. More like.... 59mph...... :headshoot

And usually I am pretty tame so he cant complain too much.

However I have thought about what people have said and stuck the baffle in my can. Until sundays. I am annoyed at this person, I feel that it was unnessecary. I would have had alot more respect if the guy had come to my house instead and said "come on mate your being a pratt lets just think of others" I genuinly would have been sorry.

I would like to know where this bloke lives so that I can have a chat with him. Its likely that if hes ****ed at me so are others. But do think he could have handled it better.

From a personal point of view if i had received it through my door i would have been wondering what Victor Meldrew sent it too :D

However whilst i would have been a bit irked that some job's worth had the neck to come and shove it through my door in the first place after half an hour i would have probably calmed down enough to try to at least understand why the tit felt it necessary to do it, and probably more importantly if he thought he could put the world to rights, why he didnt just knock on the door and ask politely :D

But i can also appreciate that times have changed and knocking on someones door just to ask them to turn a stereo down these days can cause a street riot, so maybe asking me to stay off the street with my bike could potentially be the end of the world :D

Times have changed unfortunately, going back about 12 years or so i had arranged for a loan of some kit and was going to frame charge and flashbang some New Age travellers into submission when they constantly played their music loud enough to rattle your fillings out, unfortunately as they were squatting so to speak there wasnt a lot that could be done :(

So i took a stick to them :D :D
