FFS - this strike IS NOT ABOUT THE PAY - it is about the conditions that come with it.

For 2.5%, Royal MAil want to:

increase the number of door-to-door leaflets from 3 to 10 a week while stopping the additional payments we usually receive for putting 3 a week through ( currently comes to extra £15 per week ). So, we lose the money and we deliver / you receive 10 junk leaflets every week.

Stop lorry bulk mail deliveries ( eg: Chelmsford main sorting centre to Billericay) coming through the night so the first comes at 6am (see below)

Change our start times from 5am to 6am. When we get in to the office, instead of immediately prepping our walks, we will have to unload trucks, seg all the bulk mail, sort all the bulk mail into walks THEN prep the individual walks. BAsically, this means that if currently you get your mail at 10am, you could expect it at 11:30.

We also ALL lose our early moring start allowance - currently £21 per week

We lose the early morning sorting overtime ( 3am - 5am - unloading the night trucks and sorting the bulk mail ready for the posties to prep at thier 5am start time) - I work 3 of these shifts a week so will lose about £60 per week

Royal Mail want to morph 6 current rounds into 5. So - I get a fifth more work for NO EXTRA PAY.

Royal MAil want to cut overtime and incorporate a policy whereby anyone off sick / holiday is covered by other staff at no extra pay.

Royal Mail currently owe £6 Billion to our pension fund. Yep - £6 billion. RM did not pay anything into the fund for 17 years. So my pension is not worth ****. They are trying to pay into it at a rate of hundreds of millions a year extra now to compensate. This is why they said thier profit for the last year was only £35 million - down from £650 million the year before. The posties got no bonus' this year (while Adam Crozier pocketed £400,000) because Royal Mail used the profits to try and patch up thier own ufck up.

Despite what RM would have you believe about competitiors meaning that RM are delivering less mail - quite the opposite is true. There are now 14 mail companies. But there is only 1 that actually delivers letters / mail. Royal MAil. When Crozier comes on TV bleeting about how our mail is down 40%, what he fails to mention is that all the other mail companies give it ALL TO RM TO DELIVER. My workload has increased by over 40%. Has my wage?? NO.

So, to make it clear:

RM offer us 2.5% which is equal to £6.85 per week.

Personally, with thier changes - I stand to lose £96 per week, plus any overtime I'd earn by covering sickness / holiday.

So for me - I'd start and finish later, carry even heavier bags, deliver even more sh*t and get £90 per week less.

For you - it means even more junk and your mail delivered even later (by about an hour and a half )

THAT IS WHAT IT'S ABOUT

you think thats bad you wait till all the council workers go on mass strike the unions are in talks at the moment , similar things to the postal workers , plus the top managers are getting 10% pay rise and they have offered the workers 2% , yea right does that seem fair to you

You NEED to understand - we are not trying to get more money, we are trying NOT TO LOSE THE MONEY WE CURRENTLY GET.

Just this once I dont think the fire service is going on strike. Good luck to anyone that gets what they seek from strike action, its money you loose and will never get back.

Even the police have been talking about strike action.
