Morning people, hit a women who stepped out infront of me this morning along Cornhill in the City. Only doing about 5-10mph as lights infront were RED!! Woman looked left but not right. She landed on her side but got straight up. She was not on the crossing and she crosssed between a van and bus. Should I have stopped to make sure whe was fine and reported this to anyone or was it OK to ride off as she just ran off.

Not sure what to do as this is my first accident. Not bad for almost 12 months on the road. Was expecting to have one within days of passing my CBT as being a a newbie.

Any help?
Thanks
Sniff.

I would make a point of reporting it just to cover your back.
You may find that someone in the traffic took your reg number and seeing you ride off, has reported it to plod.

Yes......Just to cover your arse, report it to the police, tell them you couldn't find out how she was as she ran off.

Spoke to the Met a while ago and told me to go to local station get a C40C1MNSLK125WDN form fill it out just to "cover yourself" said by police officer at end of the phone. Told her what happened and said becareful incase she tries to claim against me and tells a few lies.

Sorted via Dagenham nick on the way home tonight.

Best be safe than sorry.

Lesson learned as well I hope, when riding in town always assume that some twat pedestrian or push bike will step out from nowhere, especially in stationary traffic and near crossings! I nearly hit some school kids a couple of years ago, people see that cars are stopped and just walk across the road.

Thats the thing. I alway slow down on Cornhill EC4 as they are always stepping out and looking the other way. So I knew it was going to happen sometime or later.

There's some arseholes about. I was riding to work down stock road in billericay at 2:30 am on Saturday. There were 2 lads walking towards me on the path on my right and as I came to them one stepped out towards me and made as if to push me off. I swerved and stopped the bike and jumped off. It was the adreneline of the near miss but I couldn't help but lamp the kid who jumped in front of me. It must have bloody hurt as the knuckles on my gloves are stiff Kevlar. His mate just backed off.

Idiots.

Ooo good call......

my personal favourite is when u get a couple chavs anging around,

it's ****ing it down with rain & they shout an mimick the action of

"Wheelie, Wheelie"

absoloute Twats as if i am there for their entertainment & for starters its teeming it with rain!!
(oh yea i'l attempt to wheelie in the rain just ao they can ave a laugh)

what part dont they get!! i tend to shout back "Wa*K*r's!!" an be done with it, but infuriating it is!!

I remember filtering along the Eastern Avenue (A12) near Newbury Park. Stationery traffic, I was probably only doing around 15 - 20 mph and all of a sudden a woman is a bloody motorised wheelchair appears from in front of a lorry crossing the A12!
Thankfully I managed to just pull up in time - I would have hated to fill in the accident claim form for that one!

Had the misfortune back in '87 to run a young lady over in Cheapside on my CB125TDC (remember them??). Was doing 30mph, was December 10th, damned cold but dry. Had a reflective vest on and headlights.

She stepped out looking the other way.

I had nowhere to go, clipped her with my handlebar and next thing I know the world is going past me sideways. I went right-side down, astride the bike and slid for a good few yards.

Kicked the bike and hot exhaust off me, started to run back to her and it was then my brain registered that my right leg didn't work anymore, and promptly went face down on the tarmac. Lucky for the helmet huh.

Ended up in St Barts in the next cubicle along, and heard her admit she'd stepped out, was in a rush, had a parcel to post before collection blah de blah.

Got back to the bike to find a motorbike copper revving the nuts off it! I went balistic, politely (ok maybe not) pointed out the 10p sized hole in the crankcase where the brake lever had gone through, and the big puddle of oil on the floor. "That's just petrol" he said, "it does that to tarmac".

Next thing I remember is being on the tube, knee all bandaged up but weeping through the dressing, and everyone looking at me funny.

Next memory was arriving at my house, knocking, and my dad opening it asking me what'd happend, and me saying "I dunno".

Was in shock. Couldn't remember what had happened, where the bike was etc. Dad spoke to the police and found the bike, but the key was in my pocket still!! Britannia Rescue got it home for me, but the engine was borked.

Never heard any more about it, but still gives me a chill when I see pedestrians weaving between cars etc.

Glad you're ok Sniffer.

Thank flip for the voice of reason. Remember folks. You filter, You take the risk.

As others have said there is always someone or something waiting to pull out on you. Not a bad way to stay safe. Always assume there is this risk and ride to avoid it.

Your choice. Filtering isn't strictly illegal these days and the absolute offence of undertaking has now been removed from the statute books but be careful. In an accident, as has been explained/debated in this forum many times, the decision to prosecute can go either way if filtering as can insurance claims.

Glad to hear that in this instance, biker and ped seem to have both got away without any serious injury or damages.
