View Full Version : Making a Crosser Road legal?
Right I've bit the bullet and just bought myself a KXF250 Whoo Hoo!
It's wicked, been doing some prep work on it before I take it out for the 1st time on Sunday. Chain & sprocket, servcing, suspension set up e.t.c
Just a quick question, Can you make them road legal & how do I go about finding information?
I'm in the process of selling my CBR so i'll need somehing to keep my craving going.
Thanks
Dan

yes it is possible my KTM250exc was road registered and fully road legal , jimaim motorcycles did it all for me so not sure on procedure
They really don't need much! I road registered an RM125 a little while ago...
Good thing is that because hardly anything is fitted as standard, it doesn't need a great deal to get it through a day time MOT. Can't remember what now, but it'll say somewhere on the interweb, also might be a good idea if you could give an idea of stuff on the bike (or not on) already...?
The bike is just a crosser and would need the whole lot.
As far as i know i think you need a brake light, headlight and a spedo.
Something like a bicycle spedo with the magnet pickup on the spoke.
Thanks
Dan
Yup! well you only need a headlight if you want a full MOT...

My track bike has no headlight and is on a daytime MOT.
Brake light
Number plate light (part of above)
Horn
Depending on the MOT centre you may not even need a speedo as the bike was never fitted with one.
Headlight
Brakelight
Number Plate & Light
Speedo (?)
Indicators(?):reading
Speedo just has to be there... doesn't necessarily need to work... =)
Brake light is optional too I think for a daytime MOT... I'm pretty certain I had to disconnect mine from my track bike when I got that MOT'd because it was just LED's in the shape of a "J" - I'm so cool! =)

would think you would need to have a brake light, also exhuast maybe an issue as prob not BS stamped and loud. be aware you may get through an MOT but you will get more `attention`than usual, so if you get a tug with 2 crosser tyres on could be worth 6 points. most enduro tyres are road legal and OK on and off rd. be great fun in town when its done!
When I did the RM125 that had a "NOT FOR ROAD USE" on the exhaust... well it did until I opened it up to knock a dent out and then slipped with the welder... slipped with the Dremmel on the tyres too... should really stop slipping...
But getting attention is true... so if you just have a daytime MOT might be worth carrying your documents, although I never got tugged on the track bike

angle grinder works well on tyres to:grin2:laugh1
I have friends in the trade so actually getting the MOT is not really the issue.
Just really need to know how to register it with the DVLA?
I'll phone my mate tomorow and find out legally what i need.
I'll prob get some supermoto tyres anyway, just don't trust the knobalies (sp)
Thanks for your imput people.
